What happens if a major fiber optic cable is cut or a major hubbing location is destroyed in a fiber network? Will the whole system be brought down?



That is the subject of this article: the survivability of a well designed fiber network.



Modern fiber optic transmission systems have provided tremendous capacity for voice, video and data traffic. At the same time, the fiber network needs to be designed to take the full advantage of this economies of scale while minimizes maintenance cost.



The main design goal is to utilize cost-effective interoffice (facilities between buildings) to maximize the number of circuits remaining intact after a worst-case failure while minimizing the ongoing maintenance cost associated with this survivability.



Conventional (existing) network architecture and design methods as well as future technologies can both be used to achieve this goal to some different degrees.

The principles in designing a survivable fiber network



Put simply, the basic principle behind the design of efficient fiber networks is "demand aggregation". Demand aggregation makes use of facility hubbing and facility hierarchies to optimize facility networks.



What is facility hubbing?



Facility hubbing depends on the fact that fiber optic equipment occupies the majority cost in a fiber network. A fiber optic network's total cost is not very sensitive to the network's distance. In the mean time, fiber's capacity is too much for building to building data traffic. As a result, it is conclude that routing traffic from each building into a building selected as its "hub" is the most efficient network design.



In this way, traffic is aggregated into the largest possible bundle to take advantage of economies of scale of fiber technology.



At the hub, all traffic is sorted and properly assigned to get to its destination. Digital Cross-Connect (DCS) is used at the hub to rearrange lower rate traffic into higher rate traffic. Thus all traffic is concentrated into high capacity routes to a central location where the demands are sorted according to destination.



What is facility hierarchy?



Facilty hierarchy is the extension of facility hubbing. The concept of facility hubbing is brought a step further.



In this concept, buildings are grouped into "clusters", with each cluster having one hub building. This approach considers such factors as community of interest and geographic area.



The clusters can then be regrouped into "sectors", with each sector having a "gateway". The gateway is actually a hub building designated to handle inter-cluster traffic demand. A gateway can then aggregate demand from several cluster hubs to form a large demand to be routed to another gateway in much the same way as demand is aggregated to a hub building.



Actually the concept of facility hierarchy can be extended to an arbitrary number of levels.



Conclusion



Current fiber optic technology trends have forced a radical change in the structure of networks and the way in which networks are designed. The large capacity of fiber optic systems have resulted in efficient networks having large aggregations of demand in a few facilites.



Properly designed network architecture can increase network cost slightly but increase network survivability greatly.

The most important reason is because of its game play, even if you are not a Super Smash Bros fan, you will get addicted to this game in the first 10 minutes of game play. It is just really fun when you throw your enemies out of the screen with those unique special moves. This game can be played on four controllers which are Classic Controller, GameCube Controller, Wii Remote and Nunchuk and Wii remote together. So you can choose whichever controller you are comfortable with and you can configure them as you like. The game can be played in many modes, which includes standard multiplayer mode as well as elimination-based tournament where a maximum of 16 players can play the game, solo mode which is not very different from previous versions where you have randomly generated matches. My favorite mode has to be Adventure mode: The Subspace Emissary which is a side-scrolling based game with a wonderful storyline filled with meeting more friends as you go along and fighting the Bosses with the help of your friends. Mario and Kirby start the game as they go along side-scrolling fighting the Subspace armies and meeting friends who help them out with their fight against the Tabuu and the Subspace Army and saving the Smash Bros Universe.

The multiplayer is comparatively lag-free and with lot of features like sharing game replays, screenshots and custom levels with you friends. The custom levels created by the users cannot be used to play multiplayer game, but there are tons of awesome looking levels so it is not a deal breaker. Even if you have no friends playing Brawl, you can join multiplayer game in Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and you can play with randomly selected participants. If you are new to Brawl and are intimidated with all Brawl PRO’s, you can be a spectator and learn from the PRO’s and then you can start playing.



Now to the most important feature of Brawl, it has 35 players to choose from. Some of the players are Snake from Metal Gear Solid Series, Pikachu from Pokemon series, Donkey Kong, Mario’s alter ego Wario and the best addition Sonic the Hedgehog. Every Player has its own unique special moves and they are very much balanced. But I normally prefer Sonic because he is fast and can jump all over the screen. 2) Determine if the PC is regularly overheating by checking it's internal temperature. The sheer number of computers that crash due to overheating is truly staggering. If it is the problem, add a few fans to the case and see if any improvements are made.



3) Use your system tools to repair your computer. "Scan Disk" and "Disk Defragmenter" can be very useful for clearing up files and restoring valuable disk space -- both of which can increase performance and speed.



4) Check the registry for errors. A corrupted registry is probably the number 1 cause of system crashing; not to mention, everything else that can go wrong with a computer. The registry is the central processing center for all PC related information. So, if a monkey wrench gets thrown in there, the whole system will likely suffer. Keeping a close eye on your registry is very important -- so be sure to run a thorough scan with reliable registry repair software at least once a week.

The advantages of using Die casting vary but the most noticeable advantages are the repeated quality, smooth casting surface, and the quick production of casts. While the initial cost of Die Casting exceeds several of the other casting procedures, those that need a high number of casts in the shortest amount of time possibly will benefit greatly from the investment.



Die casting is commonly used to create commercial goods as it yields a high volume. The molds, or dies, used vary in life cycle depending upon the material used to create the die. The die can have one cavity or several cavities depending upon the need.



Everyone should try die casting at least once if they can afford the initial cost. Besides, who knows when you'll need a small battalion of metal soldiers which can be made quickly and easily with die casting.

What Is Blu-Ray And Why Should You Buy It?

In February 2008, Toshiba decided to pull the plug on the HD-DVD format. This ended the format war that was predicted to last much longer. Now manufacturers have the unenviable task of educating the consumer about Blu-ray and convincing them that it is a worthwhile purchase. When DVD hit the market in 1997, it was exciting. Here was a disc the size of a CD which you didn’t have to rewind like VHS, had superior video quality and could hold extras. But with that came the additional cost. DVD players were expensive, the discs were expensive and it took some time for consumers to make the change. Blu-ray doesn’t quite have the same novelty factor. So why should you upgrade?



First, here is a little technical information about the Blu-ray disc. Blu-ray has the same physical size and appearance of a DVD. A Blu-ray disc is read by a blue (violet) laser in the drive which has a shorter wavelength than the red laser used with CDs and DVDs. Also, the disc has much smaller, tightly packed pits which allows more capacity to be crammed into the same sized space. The BD25 disc has 25GB capacity can hold up to four times the amount of content of a standard DVD-R or four hours of high definition video. The BD50 has 50GB capacity. This format is set to be the main choice for movie studios.

The home entertainment market is driving the promotion of Blu-ray discs. High definition television is growing in popularity and Blu-ray can deliver hours of high definition video. The increased capacity on the disc means more creative authoring options and more scope for interactivity and extras. Increased interactivity such as split screens with director's commentary and cast interviews and menu overlays will allow you to access your extras without interrupting the movie. Future Blu-ray players will also have networking capabilities which would allow you to connect to the internet and access information on the film or whatever extras that the studios have developed. Also, Blu-ray offers robust content protection which is good for both movie producers and software companies.



The downsides: As of May 2008, the players which offer internet connectivity are not on the market and the current players on the market are not upgradeable. The cost of Blu-ray players and discs are prohibitive especially in the current world financial climate. I remember buying a DVD player for $800 USD only to almost weep when it was selling for $100 two years later. Recent research has forecast that almost 30 million homes will have Blu-ray technology by the end of 2008 mainly due to the PS3. However, it will not be until 2013 when the numbers of standalone players surpass that of the PS3. It seems that Blu-ray is now in the realm of early adopters, enthusiasts and gamers. As with a lot of new technology, it might be a few years before consumers jump on board after the technology and pricing has settled. My advice, wait a few more years.

In addition to the large number of consumers directly accessing the Internet via their mobile device, computer users are now also accessing the worldwide web via mobile networks.

Moreover, You Gov research indicates that mobile broadband usage is most popular amongst students and other highly mobile individuals who do not spend a lot of time at home where a fixed Internet connection is most often available. These are the consumers who spend their time in the community and are more apt to frequent the local businesses and establishments that are targeting this techno-savvy, techno-proficient demographic.
