Unpaid Items On Ebay

You finally decided to sell your grandpa’s old “Goyzen Plemmer” (What is a Goyzen Plemmer? Well, if you have a Goyzen it will Plem it.) You dug it out of the trunk in the attic, shined it up, and took pictures of it that are good enough to appear in Vogue magazine. You listed it with a well written description, and diligently attended to the auction and the questions of all of the buyers until, at last, the old thing sold to an elated winning bidder for $300.00 more than you ever expected. After the sale you sent the buyer an invoice with a note about your preferred forms of payment and a confirmation of the company that would be delivering it. You even closed with a kind word of thanks. Then, you waited for your happy buyer to send out his payment. And you waited. And you waited.



A week after the buyer’s payment should have arrived you contacted the buyer again and found that he had innocently forgotten to send the payment out as he had agreed. Being the professional and compassionate eBayer you are, you accepted his apology and told him that you would be happy to let him send out the payment at this time. You assured him that you would send the item he had purchased as soon as you received his payment. Then, you waited to receive it. And you waited. And you waited.



After another week elapsed, you contacted the buyer once again. This time, however, the buyer was not so pleasant about the matter. In fact, he told you that he had changed his mind about making the purchase and that he didn’t intend to send you a dime. Furthermore, he told you to quit harassing him about the matter, and that he didn’t have any obligation to follow through with the purchase if he didn’t choose to do so.



eBay doesn’t agree with buyers like this. eBay’s User Agreement is very specific about the commitment and the legal obligation buyers assume and agree to when they register with eBay. eBay’s Unpaid Item Policy and User’s Agreement make clear that buyers must pay for the items that they commit to purchase.



There are four steps to eBay’s Unpaid Item process as follows:



1. Sellers begin by filing an Unpaid Item Dispute.



2. eBay will contact the buyer and remind him of his obligation and how to proceed.



3. The buyer is presented with prefabricated options to communicate to the seller.



a. I want to pay now.

b. I already paid.

c. I want to communicate with the seller to resolve the problem.



4. The seller can choose to close the dispute after the buyer has responded, or if the buyer has not responded after 8 days.



There are some other details that are important and you should make it a point to review them. eBay also provides free re-listing for the seller. Unpaid Item strikes do not affect a user's Feedback Score or Feedback Profile.

Ways To List Items On Ebay

eBay offers four main ways to list items:



1. Standard Online Auction Format



The standard auction-style format is flexible and most of the auctions on eBay utilize this methodology. When you use it, you will be given many options, including giving buyers an opportunity to buy at a fixed price (Buy It Now), selling multiple identical items, and setting a hidden minimum-selling price (reserve price). This auction is probably the right format for you, unless you would rather offer your item only at your specified price, you are selling a vehicle, or you are selling real estate and want to advertise the property's availability without running an auction for it. The auction's duration can be specified and when the auction-style listing ends, the high bidder or bidders buy the item from the seller for the high bid.



2. Fixed Price Format



In the fixed price format, a seller lists a fixed price that he wants for the product and as soon as he finds a buyer who is willing to pay the price, he sells the product immediately. There is no bidding involved. You are offering one or more items for sale at a Buy It Now price. Many buyers prefer to buy in this fashion and the majority of these consumers prefer to utilize PayPal for payment. If you qualify, you can sell multiple identical items in one listing. You can also add the Best Offer feature to your Fixed Price listing. Best Offer allows buyers to suggest a price they are willing to pay for an item, and can be used with any listing that is not an auction-style listing. Best Offer is valuable if you selected Fixed Price to avoid low bids, but you are also willing to accept a little less money for your item. Potential buyers may submit only one Best Offer for an item, so you may receive offers close to your Fixed Price.



3. eBay Stores



An eBay Store allows individual sellers to showcase all of their items and tell potential buyers more about their business on their own customized pages. Buyers can learn more about sellers, their policies, and the items they sell in order to find great deals and make informed purchases. Many big-name retailers have eBay Stores and this methodology allows a buyer to compete right along side of them in this open marketplace. Based on data from an eBay Stores survey in June of 2005, 75% of eBay Stores sellers surveyed said that opening an eBay Store increased their sales.



4. Classified Advertisements



Many eBayer’s use classified ads to list items, services, or properties for sale in order to generate multiple leads. This format does not enable buyers and sellers to transact online through eBay nor is eBay feedback available. Interested buyers fill out a contact form and their information is sent to you. Please note that eBay’s privacy policy prohibits sharing the buyer's information with third parties as well as use of the buyer's information for any purpose other than communicating with the buyer about the item, unless expressly permitted to do so by the buyer. Failure to comply with this policy can result in the seller's suspension or expulsion from the eBay community.

Our glossary is dedicated to the different search engine optimization terms and definition currently doing the circuit within the search engine optimization community. As I compile these terms several site owners are not very clear in what they are trying to define. I have not adjusted my findings in any way, during my research.



Part C; Search Engine Optimization Glossary terms beginning with C:



Cache:



1. Cache is more expensive than RAM, it is well worth getting a CPU and motherboard with build in cache, in order to maximize system performance.



2. Cache is identified by cache key which is build as a dot-delimited.



Cgi bin:



1. Your own CGI bin directory you can, you can store custom CGI scripts that you have written yourself or found on the web.

Clickrate:



1. Clickrate is the percentage of expressions that result from clickthrough.



Cloaking:



1. Cloaking is often confused with doorway pages.



2. Cloaking is serving different content to visitors than the search engines.



3. Cloaking is search engine spam.



4. Cloaking is were you can set to sets of content.



Conversion:



1. Conversion in e-commerce is the result given to a positive sale.



2. Conversion is a marketers term used for a site visit.



Cookie:



1. Cookie is an element of data that a website can send to your browser.



2. Cookie is an "enticement" to get a computer user to visit you.



Cost Per Action: (CPA)



1. CPA is a fancy way of dressing up a "Affiliate Program"



2. CPA is a very difficult program to track and is expensive.



3. CPA is a form of direct advertising.



Cost Per Click: (CPC)



1. CPC is the price you pay per click to your website.



2. CPC is advertising such as Google Adwords and Overture.



3. CPC is a method adopted to gain high volumes of traffic for a set price.



Cost Per Lead: (CPL)



1. CPL is good but you must follow up for the sale or its not worth it.



2. CPL is a ratio and strategic metric.



Cost Per Order: (CPO)



1. CPO is based on every time an order is processed.



2. CPO is simply the cost column divided by the number of orders received from that station that day.



Counter:



1. Counter stores data to let you look at your site statistics over a set period.



2. Counters track web site traffic.



CSS:



1. CSS is a very powerful way to make good layout.



2. CSS is what gives web sites their layout and colour.



3. CSS is supported by all browsers today.



4. CSS is a style language that defines layouts of HTML documents.



Custom Error Page:



1. A custom error page is a temporary solution.



2. A custom error page is called 404b.



Summary:



All the research compiled to complete this article are true and accurate findings. The terms found during research, are just a selection of terms doing the circuit in the search engine optimization community. In my next article part D, I will be looking for more defined terms.

One of the most important things a seller, or affiliate, can do on eBay is to build, and keep, the confidence of current and future buyers. Below are a few useful tips about how you, as a seller, can make a buyer gain interest in your eBay auction item and then how you can “close the sell” and gain a satisfied, and hopefully repeat, customer.



The first thing many eBay buyers look for, after looking at all of the pictures you included, are details about the item being auctioned and then they look at the shipping terms. Many sellers inflate the shipping cost to increase their revenue. I once saw a DVD player that was selling for 20 bucks. Sounds like a great deal…right? Wrong. The shipping charge, in a deceptively, and incorrect, spot at the bottom of the page, was 120 bucks! Today’s eBay buyers have caught on to this practice and will not bid on an item that is priced low but has high shipping costs.



Auction details should also include the type of payment that will be accepted. Approximately 75 percent of eBay buyers prefer to pay via PayPal, which, by the way, is owned and operated by eBay Inc. An added bonus of using PayPal, statistically speaking, is that it reduces the chance of the buyer skipping out of town and not paying for the winning bid. Buyers can also take full benefit of the PayPal Buyer Protection program where the buyer is protected up to $1000.00. Don’t have a PayPal account yet? You should! If you don’t, be sure to clearly state that you do not and spell out alternative payment methods.



Let’s discuss shipping again. Terms should be spelled out in your auction detail. This includes shipping time, costs and all of your other applicable policies. An easy way to entice buyers is to offer free shipping. Include it in the price of your item and watch how your sales increase. Another option is to offer a flat delivery rate for specified areas. It is not uncommon for sellers to have a flat shipping fee and then list a secondary international shipping fee.



Auction details need to clearly state return policies along with cancellation charges wherever applicable. The terms of the return policy should always be clear and to the point. It is estimated that approximately 20 percent of current auctions are lacking a return policy. These sellers might be losing sales to the auctions that do have a policy listed. Would you buy an electronic item on eBay if you could not return it to the seller if it showed up at your house DOA (dead on delivery)?



If a seller describes the item correctly, follows up on questions and promptly ships items there is no reason a buyer will not give a rating of 5 stars (5 is the highest and 1 is the lowest). Strive to keep feedback positive and it will increase buyer confidence and have a beneficial impact on your bottom line.

Auction Timing On Ebay

Let us suppose that you have a product that has only come up for auction a few times in the history of on–line auctions. Let us further suppose that there is a marketplace filled with no fewer than 1000 active, willing and desirous potential buyers who have waited for the opportunity to participate in the next “mosh pit” of supply and demand frenzy that will result when your fabulous item is listed for sale. You are certain to be well on your path to on-line fame and fortune. You are also certain that the final selling price of your perfect item will match, or even succeed, all of the prior eBay auctions.



Not so fast my little auction cherub. All too often a seller will identify the item he is selling, compare it with items that have sold recently on eBay and are now considered completed sales items, and even go so far as to prepare a beautiful presentation, which includes a well thought out description, perfect pictures and flashy HTML widgets, followed by what the seller supposes to be a slam dunk auction listing, only to wait and watch as a full seven day auction period rushes by leaving the “sure thing” item still on the auction block or selling dismally for just above the reserve price. Why does this happen? The “other guys” are making huge profits on rare items such as mine. What is so different?



Many eBayers fail to take a careful yet critical step during the research process and discover that many items are seasonal in their marketability. Their seasonal nature might be extremely subtle, but a slight subtlety is all it takes to influence the outcome of an otherwise routine and successfully sold auction listing. Unfortunately, in many cases a mistake like this can cause the sale of the item to either fail or fall far short of the seller’s expectations. Pay careful attention to the many types of seasonal influences that exist. Examples are the schedules of school semesters, vacation and travel peak times, holidays, celebrations, and those times when people prepare for them, sport seasons, and many, many other factors involving and influencing the timing of a prospective sale. When you consider listing an item ask yourself a question – will the individuals in my target market be sitting in front of the computer when my auction ends? For example, if you sold sporting goods would you want your auctions to end on the day of the Super Bowl?



eBay sellers should also pay special attention to the end times of their auctions. It really doesn’t make much sense to end an auction for an average home embroidery machine at 3 a.m. on a Tuesday morning. It stands to reason that the better part of your potential market will be much more likely to actively participate in the final moments of an auction that ends between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on a Sunday. This can send the final price of your selling item up through the stratosphere as the bidders work themselves into the all too common eBay auction frenzy.

These companies print a book only when a copy is sold, thereby reducing the need to store copies of your book. The Best SEO Tip Ever

Let’s take it for granted that:



a. You want to be top of the search engine results

b. You understand about on-page optimization

c. Your website is up and running and indexed



Now what? How do you take your site from the middle of the pile and push and pull it slowly to the promised land of the top 5 positions?



And slowly here is the key. If you want short-term, quick-profit solutions (in other words ‘black hat’ techniques) you may as well stop reading now. I’m talking about long term investment into the future of your website and business.



I’m also not talking about ranking number 1 in Google for your business name or a 10 word phrase that absolutely no-one else would want to rank for. If you haven’t done that yet, you need to go away and get some very basic SEO grounding.



What I want to discuss is out-performing your competitors on the absolutely top-notch make-you-a-fortune keywords that bring laser-targeted traffic. In other words, the ones you’re only dreaming about ranking for!



Enough pre-amble; how do we do it?



Simple, really – we stand on the shoulders of giants. In other words, we look at what successful websites do and have done – and we use that information. No, we’re not going to re-invent the wheel and copy others’ business models, we’re going to take the cream from their hard work and pour it onto our sites!



Ranking in Google is about two things – it’s about relevance and it’s about popularity. We’ll assume that our sites are relevant to the traffic we’re seeking – no point attracting shoe shoppers if we’re selling ice cream! So it’s about popularity. And in Google’s case, that means backlinks. Put simply, the better the links to your site, the more they’ll see you as being popular, and the more they’ll pull your site to the top of the results.



Notice I said ‘better’, not ‘more’. In this case, quality is far more important than quantity. I can give you examples of sites with 300,000 inbound links that are far outranked by sites with 2000.



SEO experts talk about ranking number 1 in Google rather than Yahoo or MSN simply because Google is the search engine that most searchers use. Ironically, though, we need to use Yahoo to get to number one in Google. This is because Google is really bad at showing inbound links.



Yahoo Site Explorer (siteexplorer dot search dot yahoo dot com) is far better at this. YSE will show you which sites link to your competitors. And better still, they’ll rank them in terms of importance, so all the hard work’s done for you!



You just need to type in the URL of the site into the SEARCH box at the top of the screen, click on ‘Explore URL’, then click on ‘Inlinks’ and select ‘Except from this domain’ in the drop-down box. Lo-and-behold – a list of your competitor’s most important links. Not bad, eh?



So here’s your strategy:



First, draw up your list of must-have, top-drawer keywords and keyword phrases.



Second, search Google for them and take a note of the top 10 websites for each.



Third, examine each of the top 10 in YSE and see where the important links are coming from.



Fourth, filter these links into three categories: 1, the sites you won’t get links from; 2, the sites you’ll get links from with some hard work; 3, the sites you can get links from straight away (these can include blogs that allow comments, directories, article sites etc)



Fifth, get to work on acquiring links from the third category, then move on to the second.



This takes time, obviously, but not as much time as randomly searching for links that you’ll ultimately discover have no importance whatsoever.



If you follow this procedure diligently and methodically, I can guarantee that you’ll soon begin to see your sites slowly but surely marching up to the top of the rankings.
