Essential Ice Fishing Gear

By Trinity Anderson

Spring and summer are most closely associated with fishing. Standing in the middle of a stream on a sunny day tossing out a favorite fly is a scene shown in many a movie. But a dedicated angler will hardly want to stow away the rod and reel for months on end. Not when they could go ice fishing.

But ice fishing requires a little different gear to go along with modified conditions and technique. Even apart from the obvious differences in clothing there are several items that the summertime fisherman doesn't usually pack.

An ice auger is a foremost requirement. To get to the fish you have to get your line and lure into the water. That means drilling through what is sometimes as much as a foot of ice. Even if you could get through that with an ax you would be very likely to dump yourself in the water. An auger is a drill built specially for the purpose of making clean, safe holes in ice with minimal effort.

Many are hand powered, often on a pole. You turn the crank and you're in business. But, today, fishermen want to spend more time fishing and less time drilling. Gas-powered augers are increasingly popular. Though heavier to carry, they cut down the time and effort required to make that hole so you can get to the fishing.

Even the basic gear is a little different for ice fishing, though. Ice fishing rods have specially designed guides that continue to work well in low temperatures. They resist ice build up that will snag a line. The reels have to be designed to continue to work smoothly under freezing conditions. Line used for ice fishing has to withstand a much harsher environment and still remain flexible.

Tackle gets special treatment when it's intended to be used for ice fishing, as well. Fly fishing takes on a whole new meaning when it's done by plunking a lure through a 12 inch hole in the ice. For one thing, since fish go after a different type of insect in the winter than they will in the summer, the flies are designed to better match the natural differences.

Making room for some safety gear is highly recommended when planning an ice fishing trip. Even something as simple as an ice pick can save your life.

Ice is like glass in one way - it's highly unpredictable when subjected to stress. If it fractures underneath your stool and dumps you in the water, an ice pick in a handy pocket or sheath can provide a way to get back out again. Some are designed to be worn on a line around the neck, which can be a lifesaver. Even with gloves, pulling yourself out by hand is much, much harder.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with a little comfort while you're braving the cold to land a few fish. An ice shanty can make for the perfect tent to get out of the weather and store your gear away from the wind or snow.

Don't leave home to go ice fishing without the proper gear. It will give you more time for angling and increase your catch.

Why Pick Betfair

By Tony Wilkinson

Betfair offers the best services at the cheapest prices, is completely transparent in its operations, is readily available, accessible from anywhere round the globe, and is easy to use. Do we need any more reasons May be not but there are more reasons to go for Betfair. Let's go over the advantages of using Betfair.com one by one in the order of their significance.

The most important point is that there is no bookmaker. The one who lays a bet is also a user like the one who backs a bet. There is no arbitrage income make by any middlemen. This saves the spread losses and the backing prices are higher than those offered by bookmakers. Also in traditional betting setup, the bookmaker's books cannot be seen and one cannot calculate the arbitrage losses. At Betfair, no book is built, arbitrage loss is nil, commissions are well defined, and hence there is complete transparency.

Secondly, a user can back an outcome as well as lay a bet. In a traditional market, only a bookmaker lays a bet. Laying a bet means taking the other side of the bet. The one who lays a bet wins when the outcome is negative and vice-versa. Laying bets then by backing especially when there are multiple outcomes possible makes more money. This opportunity, not available in a bookmaker's office, is present on Betfair. This is good when betting on sports like cricket/football/rugby/tennis/ motor racing etc. You have the ability in a game/match/race to back and lay according to what is happening. The odds change quite dramatically when a goal/try is scored and with multiple goals/tries the odds see saw giving you the chance to back and lay to win no matter what the result is. Laying systems can also be used with betfair.

Next important point is the control offered to the user by Betfair. Odds are not decided by Betfair but are placed by the user himself. Market forces define the odds just as in the financial markets where bids and offers decide the price movement. User can decide whether to back or to lie. He can bet while the game is on. He can monitor and participate in a number of different games simultaneously happening in different parts of the world.

Betfair is racing towards the number one spot in the world of gambling at a rampant pace. Its increasing market share means more than just rising commissions and more business. More gamblers, implies more volumes and more volumes implies more liquidity. When a user wants to bet on a particular event, the most important thing is that there should be someone to take the other side of the bet. At Betfair, high level of liquidity assures him that there will be lay betters for his backings and back betters for his laying. Sometimes, this point alone suffices for a gambler to enter the Betfair arena. This is how liquidity acts in a self-fuelling manner to create more liquidity and lead to efficient price discovery.

The betting opportunities are far greater with betfair with in running betting. Winning bets of odds of 999/1 are far more common than people think. You would never get those sort of odds with a traditional bookmakers.

There are also a few people that put up to £16000 on every horse in a race at odds of 1.01. These sort of bets use high speed bots. The bets are set up and only taken when a horse reaches 1.01 in the betting which is usually just before the winning post. The thinking behind this is, there are often over 30 races a day and to make 1 percent of your money on each race means they can make around 30 percent a day. The bad thing is when a horse gets pipped on the line when well clear and you lose your money. So long as this doesn’t happen more than once in a hundred races which is only about 3 ½ days racing they do make a lot more than a bank pays interest.

All in all, Betfair is a great betting exchange that is improving by the day and the advantages it offers at a minimal cost are unbelievable, yet true.

Cairns Restaurants For A First Date, Valentines Day Or Someone Special

By Mark Date

Cairns is about 1700 km (1057 miles) north of Brisbane in Far North Queensland, Australia. Cairns is considered by many as a stepping stone to the Great Barrier Reef, Cape Tribulation and the Atherton Tableland. The gorgeous town of Port Douglas is another 30 miles north. Cairns is a popular tourist destination for travellers of all budgets. Cairns has a population that is fairly transient in nature, and as such, many institutions, including restaurants, are aimed at the one off visitor.

OK, so you have been on chat with your online dating potential romance. Now you have planned to hook up. Where to go for a meal? Well, if you are one of those lucky people based in Cairns there are about 200 restaurants for you to choose from. We have trawled through the multitudes to present you with a short list of fine (probably expensive), different (novel), and good value eateries.

Fine Dining in Cairns:

Oliver's Australian Fine Cuisine, Abbott St, Cairns, is a truly romantic and elegant eatery. Their award winning chef combines Aboriginal traditional food stuffs with modern Asian and European cuisine. Tamarind Restaurant, Sofitel Reef Casino, Wharf St, Cairns, requires an advance booking to ensure a table. This fine restaurant is considered to be truly elegant and additionally, intimate in atmosphere. The menu is a meeting of the best of both East and West cuisine. The Sebel Reef House, Williams Esplanade, Palm Cove, has been for many years considered one of the most elegant restaurants in the area. This restaurant has it all: food, service and location, all of them exquisite. Far Horizon's Restaurant, Veivers Rd, Palm Cove, is an award winning restaurant that combines a true beach front location with exquisite cuisine. Very romantic.

Unusual Restaurants in Cairns:

For those diners looking for something a little different, we thought these three eateries were worthy of a mention due to their individuality. No ho-hum with these restaurants! Atriums, Holiday Inn, the Esplanade, Cairns overlooks a rain forest atrium featuring a stream with barramundi. The menu features contemporary Australian and seafood, both in buffet style and a la carte. The new Casa de Meze, the Esplanade, Cairns, will provide you with a meal and a salsa dancing display. This restaurant features steak, seafood and pasta, and on Saturday nights you can have a free salsa lesson. This restaurant is quite noisy, but offers lots of fun. Perrottas at the Gallery, the Regional Gallery, Cairns, has a contemporary Italian/ Mediterranean menu. This restaurant has a fantastic location, and believe it or not, is the only real all outdoors eatery in Cairns.

Cheap Eats in Cairns:

Due to the plethora of backpackers in Cairns, there is no shortage of cheap restaurants. Many cheap eateries are however, attached to backpacking hostels. Where to go for an inexpensive meal that might still offer some atmosphere? The Banana Leaf, the Esplanade, Cairns is situated in a fantastic location opposite the lagoon. So You Want To Start Gambling At Online Casinos? Read This First

By Andy Follin

The online gambling world can seem like a bit of a jungle to beginners. There are so many sites to choose from, it’s difficult to know who or what to trust.

Online casinos

When I first started gambling online, even some of the casinos were crooked – they’d take your money easily enough, but the games were rigged with ridiculously low payout rates. And if by some miracle you managed to win, you’d never get paid!

Fortunately, things are much better now for those looking to start in online gambling. Most of the ‘rogue’ casinos have been ousted from the industry, named and shamed by their competitors and the industry watchdogs that uphold the self-imposed code of conduct.

There are always some new start-up companies looking to make a quick buck out of the unsuspecting newcomer, but the industry is now so well established that choosing a casino with a proven track record is not difficult.

Which brings us back to the first point. There are so many casinos to choose from, how do you select the ones that will suit you best?

Casino portals

The internet is flooded with ‘casino portals’, sites that compare and contrast online casinos, describing bonus offers and promotions and generally driving you to casinos they have an affiliation with.

In the main, these portals perform a service – they give you all the information you need to make an informed choice. True, some are little more than banner farms, with little or no content, but the majority are respected and worthy of your trust.

The ‘ideal’ casino portal

But when I started gambling online, I wanted something more than just a recommendation. I was curious to learn, but I didn’t want to be ripped off.

I’d spent time and money looking for ‘infallible’ systems. I’d even bought a few make-1000-dollars-a-night Roulette systems from eBay, only to find out that they were, in fact, very fallible!

I was curious to learn how to play more games than just Blackjack and Roulette, but didn’t want to lose a fortune in the process.

Basically, I wanted a site that would:

1. Simply and honestly explain the basics of online casino gambling – the rules, odds and payouts of games;

2. Discuss gambling strategies such as the Martingale and Labouchere – and allow me to try them out free of charge;

3. Describe in detail a small, select range of online casinos that could be trusted.

Sadly, I couldn’t find a site that fulfilled all those needs. So, to borrow a phrase, I built it myself!

Fortune Palace is a site built on the premise of: learn to play, practice without risk, select a casino and play for real. It enables players to go from beginner to high-roller with as little risk as possible.

The tagline says it all, really: games, strategies and casinos. It’s hopefully everything you need to get started in online gambling, but without undue risk! There’s no time limit on how long you can practice and you could, if you desired, only ever play on the site for fun – you don’t need to play for real and there’s no pressure to do so.

From day one I wanted to be ethical and I'm very pleased that the site has been given the Gambling Portal Webmasters Association’s seal of approval and is listed by eCOGRA (the online watchdog) as a 'reputable portal'.

Features

Basics - Explanations of odds, the House Edge, the Gambler's fallacy, an overall gambling strategy and an explanation of wagering requirements.

Games - Odds, rules and bets of specific games (eg Blackjack, Baccarat, Sic Bo, Pai Gow Poker) with free-play versions on which to practice your new-found skills!

Strategies - Specific strategies for the above games aimed at three risk levels - from beginner to high stakes. Plus descriptions and tests of all the major Roulette gambling systems (eg Martingale, Paroli, Labouchere)

Casinos - Deposit and withdrawal options, full games lists, customer support numbers, bonus information and language options.

The best online gambling guide

It may sound arrogant to say that I’ve designed the best online gambling guide and if it does then I apologise. But as I came to this from the point of view of a beginner in online gambling, I know that the site will give you everything you need to get started.

Put simply, Fortune Palace is the site I wished I’d found when I first began gambling at online casinos. It would have saved me a lot of money!

About the Author: Andy Follin runs Fortune Palace, widely regarded as the best online gambling guide for gamblers of all levels, from beginner to high roller. It includes game strategies, reviews of the best online casinos, the latest online casino bonus offers and a detailed deposit guide for ALL players, including those from the USA.

Retire To The Golf Course

By Tim Stewart

Retiring to the golf course doesn't need to be just a dream. It also doesn't have to mean retiring to Florida or Arizona either. For that matter, it doesn't mean that you need to wait until you're ready to retire to start looking into golf club homes like those at the Anderson Creek Club in North Carolina.

With a year round temperate climate, easy access to both beaches along the Atlantic Ocean and to mountain ranges on the Western side of the state, the Anderson Creek Club is in an ideal location. For those of you who are thinking toward the future but are still working, the Anderson Creek Club is just a short trip from Fayetteville, Pinehurst and Raleigh. Overall, what that means is this: you'll find that you're able to be in the middle of everything - cultural centers, shopping, great restaurants and even colleges and universities.

Being able to get to wherever you want to be is nice, but it doesn't address the two primary concerns of those who want to retire to the golf course. One of those concerns is the golf itself. The other is the home.

The Anderson Creek Club golf course, in order to address the first of those concerns, will prove to be challenging regardless of your experience on the course. An eighteen hole course designed by Davis Love III - the 1997 PGA champion - features tree-line fairways and rolling greens that wind through 7, 180 yards for a 72 par. The course was determined to be the best new course in North Carolina in 2001, and lives up to the championship reputation of its designer.

What could be better than being able to play the Anderson Creek Club course whenever time allowed? What about living in a patio home, condominium, townhouse or single family home that abuts the course?

All of the homes that are available at the Anderson Creek Club will give you easy access to 14 ponds that are stocked for fishing and suitable for canoing and kayaking. You'll be able to go swimming, play tennis or volleyball, and have family picnics without having to leave the neighborhood. Walk along nature trails. You'll be able to have the active lifestyle that you have always enjoyed, but you'll be able to relax and unwind - even if, for you, that means indulging in spa services like a massage before heading back to your home.

Whether you're looking for a smaller home, a condo where you won't have to worry about maintaining the property or a larger home - an estate home at the Anderson Creek Club - that will allow you to have all the space you need, you'll find that it's easy to find a great property that suits all of your needs. Of course, if you've always wanted to design a home of your own, don't think that retiring to the Anderson Creek Club is out of the question. Wooded home sites are also available and you'll be able to have your dream home built for you.

The Anderson Creek Club makes retiring to the golf course even more appealing.

Tips To Writing Your Online Dating Profile

By Mark Date

Ever wondered why some of your single friends seem to get more matches through online dating than you? (We're not talking about your friends who physically resemble Brad and Angelina here.) You are all of a similar standard in the looks department, but some of them just keep getting the matches. Perhaps you need to overhaul your online dating profile. Check these tips below to ensure that your online dating profile is as good as it can be:

Sell yourself up. You should never forget that your online dating profile is pretty much an advertisement for yourself. There is no point downplaying your attributes. Demonstrate your best features in a positive light. Would you purchase a car that had an uninspiring ad?

Show individuality. Don't be afraid to stand out from the rest of the online dating singles. People get bored reading the same descriptions over and over. Make an effort to give different answers to others. Bland and safe answers are boring answers and you will not catch any one's attention by playing it safe.

Select an appropriate name. This is a really important point that many singles overlook when online dating. Single guys should note that girls do not think that any kind of dating name that has overly sexual connotations is clever or appealing. Everyone gets the names with 69 in them, no they are not clever, and most girls find them a turn off. If you can't think of anything original, or everything you can think of is taken, opt for your porn star name. Your porn star name is the name of your first pet and the name of your first street that you lived in. Play around with those name combinations until you find something you like.

Display a photo. Surveys show over and over that other singles will not date you if they cannot see what you look like. This makes sense since approximately 90% of initial attraction is based upon appearances. Other online dating singles want to see what you look like now, not 10 years and 10 kilos ago. Ensure that your online photo is as flattering as it can be. If you have great features make sure that they are well displayed in the photo.

Be honest. There is no point lying about your age and your hobbies. You are only wasting your time and everyone else's. Be honest about what sort of relationship you are seeking. There are plenty of singles in online dating for all types of encounters. If you are not interested in long term relationships tick one of the other boxes. Being honest on your profile gives you a much higher chance of finding someone that you are genuinely going to have things in common with.

Don't appear desperate. You may be desperate and dateless. You may feel that you are hopeless. You may have been single for a while. However, your online dating profile is no place to display those thoughts. No one likes misery. The more desperate you appear, the less singles you will attract. The trick to online dating is to appear happy and carefree.

Spend some time and thought on your online dating profile. Your online dating profile is definitely not the place for 'near enough is good enough'. Your online dating profile is the equivalent of you walking into a singles club. Would you go there looking less than your best? Eye catching online dating profiles do grab the attention of online dating singles. Overhaul your profile now.

Learning Roulette Rules

By Richard Legg

Learning how to play the game is a must before you actually start betting real money on the roulette table. With that in mind, I have prepared a comprehensive article about the rules of roulette, so that beginners to the game would be informed and prepared beforehand.

First, let's talk about the wheel. The roulette wheel is composed of 36 numbers, from 1 to 36. There are also a “0” and a “00”. Casinos in the United States usually use a double-0 in their roulette wheels, as well as a single “0”. The European roulette only uses a single “0”, so if you can find one, play it, since the house edge is lessened in your favor. The numbers on the wheel are alternately colored red and black, with the zeros colored green.

Players bet by placing their chips on the numbered layout, after which the dealer spins the wheel and spins the white ball in the opposite direction of the spinning wheel. Players may still bet until the ball is ready to leave the track and fall onto the wheel itself. At this time, the dealer will call out “No more bets”. After the wheel stops spinning and the ball has fallen onto a number slot, the dealer places a marker on the winning number and pays the bets accordingly.

Here is how the bets are paid:

A bet on one number only, called a straight-up bet, pays 35 to 1. (You collect 36. With no house advantage you should collect 37 (38 in the USA on double zero roulette wheels).

A two-number bet, called split bet, pays 17 to 1.

A three-number bet, called street bet, pays 11 to 1.

A four-number bet, called corner bet, pays 8 to 1.

A six-number bet, pays 5 to 1.

A bet on the outside dozen or column, pays 2 to 1.

A bet on the outside even money bets, pays 1 to 1.

Here are the types of bets in roulette:

Single Number / Straight Up: Any number on the table. (Example: 00, 5, 22, etc.)

2 - Number (Split): Placing a bet on the line dividing two adjoining numbers on the table. When you place this bet, you are betting that either of the two adjacent numbers will come up.

3 - Number (Across): Placing a bet on any 3 adjoining numbers on a table. To place this bet, place your chips on the line to the left of the first number in the series.

4 - Number (Corner): Placing a bet on four numbers whose position on the table make a square. To place this bet, place your chips on the line in the center of the square.

6 - Number (Across): Placing a bet on six numbers made up of two rows of three numbers each. To place this bet, place your chips on the line to the left of the first number in the series and between the two rows of numbers.

Section (12 Numbers): There are three different ways to make this bet. You can either bet that the number that comes up will be "1st 12", "2nd 12" or "3rd 12". That is that the number will be in the first group of 12 numbers (1 - 12), the second group (13 - 24) or the third group (25 - 36).

Column (12 Numbers): You can bet that the number that comes up will be in the first column, second column, or third column. To place this bet, place your chips in the square at the bottom of the column you wish to bet on.

1 - 18 or 19 - 36: You can bet on whether the number that comes up will be between 1 and 18 or 19 and 36. Note that neither of these bets include the "0" or "00". To place this bet, place your chips on the section marked "1 to 18" or "19 to 36".

Odd or Even: You can bet on whether the number that comes up is an odd or even number. To place this bet, place your chips on the section marked "Odd" or "Even".

Color (Red or Black): You can bet on what color the number that comes up will be. To place this bet, place your chips on the section marked "Red" or "Black".

Sensible Roulette Strategies

By Richard Legg

There are a lot of strategies to be found concerning the game of roulette. Most of these strategies involve the use of systems. There are good systems, and there are bad ones. Most of them are just plain ridiculous, while others may be worth a shot. However, the roulette strategies I'm about to present to you doesn't involve any system at all. They are just based on plain common sense coupled with a lot of experience.

The Wheel Does Not Remember

Despite what the casinos repeatedly try to tell you, the roulette wheel does not have a memory. If you continue to play the game believing that it does, then you're just throwing away your money right there. Look, streaks may sometimes happen, so you may see four or five black numbers come out in a row. But that doesn't mean that the chances of getting a red number on the next spin will increase. For every spin of the wheel, the law of probability remains the same. Even if you've seen five black numbers win in a row, don't start thinking that the next number will surely be red this time.

How To Bet

Try to think about how you're betting in roulette. Are you betting to win, or are you betting against yourself? Most players don't realize this, but the way they bet plays a big factor whether they win or lose. The best method here is to use a betting strategy that allows you to leverage your winnings and losses. For example, some people like to bet on both black and red numbers at the same time. This will just result in getting a push or a total loss, if 0 or 00 ever comes out. See what I mean?

One of the few betting strategies I've seen that looks good enough to use would be the positive progression method. How does it work? A player using positive progression will bet on a group of numbers straight up. Now, if they win, they take their 35-to-1 winnings, double their bets, and pocket the rest. If they hit again, they can either progress their bets, or go away a winner. If they lose, they just start over with the original amount they played with.

As I've mentioned, this strategy looks good on paper and is worth a try. However, do not play the negative progression strategy, by all means. Negative progression means doubling your bets every time you lose. This could eat away at your money faster than you thought possible. It exponentially increases your losses, and if ever you win, you just get back to zero. Playing negative progression is just a bad idea.

Numbers to Play

I really cannot give you any useful strategy here. Different people all have different lucky numbers that they feel comfortable with. Most of the players I've seen choose numbers based on birthdays, important dates, ages of friends or loved ones, hotel rooms, telephone numbers, psychic readings, and whatnot. So the best numbers to bet on are really up to you.

Playing Sensibly Wins

There are no guaranteed wins at roulette. You are playing a gambling game, after all. However, if you know how to bet smartly, use effective positive progression methods, and are lucky enough, you can increase your chances of coming away a winner. And oh, by the way... knowing when to quit is also a very good idea.

Good luck and enjoy the game!

Water-Based Finishes: What Should You Know About Them?

By Megan Cherry

It's true that many believe water-based finishes are safer than other finishes, and that they are also safer to handle. However, water-based finishes still use some of the same resins used in urethane and acrylic finishes. Water-based finishes are indeed much safer than traditional lacquers, but you should still be careful when you use them. Most of you have used latex paint before. Therefore, you know that the fumes can be quite intense, especially in an enclosed space. This is also true for water-based finishes, and you'll want to take proper precautions to protect both your skin and lungs. Make sure there's adequate ventilation, wear proper protective clothing, and wear a respirator as well.

Many harmful additives have been replaced by water in these types of finishes. The resins are not easily mixed with water, though, so they have to be chemically modified in order to be emulsified with the water. These require chemicals called surfaces and solvents to be added; among these are glycol ethers, which force resins to mix with water.

Yet another problem with water-based finishes is that the water will often raise the grain in the wood. Try this sometime. Sand a piece of wood and then rub some plain water on it. You'll notice that the wood fibers will absorb the water and swell, which makes them "stand up" and roughen. To get around this problem, you can use a seal or coat of shellac. This will add a barrier between the wood and the next coat of finish. It will also give your wood a little bit of an amber color. Alternatively, you can use a couple of light coats of standing sealer. Once the standing sealer has dried, you can lightly sand the wood, which will smooth it out.

Fortunately, though, water finishes are of a neutral color, which means that they don't add any color to the wood as other finishes might. Other lacquers might cause a slight amber color to the wood. Therefore, if you want to keep your wood's natural color without any distortion whatsoever, a water-based finish is a great choice. However, there are certain woods that do not do best with a water-based finish. These are the darker woods such as cherry or walnut. If a water-based finish is applied, this tends to "tone down" the color of the wood so that the deep rich wood color is somewhat negated with a water-based finish.

Therefore, water-based finishes have both pros and cons. Pros are that they are not flammable and are less polluting than traditional finishes are, they don't yellow, dry fast and can be either sprayed on or applied with a brush. In addition, water-based finishes have much less of an odor and clean up is much easier than it is with other types of finishes. However, they have drawbacks too. Most cannot give wood a deep, rich color as we are used to with a solvent-based finish. In addition, the water raises the wood's grain and can be very difficult to apply, since humidity and temperature play a role in both application and drying times.

In addition, with water-based finishes, the tools you'll need will be slightly different than those with solvent-based finishes. For example, steel wool will rust quickly with water-based finishes, and natural bristle brushes will absorb too much water and become limp. In addition, if you're using either a conventional or high-volume low-pressure spray gun, you'll need to have stainless steel needles and nozzles so that corrosion does not happen.

How To Win At Blackjack - And Why Most Gamblers Don't!

By Andy Follin

A lot of players new to Blackjack will tell you that the object of the game is to get a points total as close to twenty one as possible.

It isn’t. Thinking like this has led many an unsuspecting gambler into losing their entire bankroll.

The simple fact is that the object of Blackjack is to beat the dealer, and you can do this with a points total of nineteen, fifteen or even twelve.

Like all casino games, the rules of Blackjack favour the house in the long run. Although the house edge in Blackjack is the lowest of all casino games (around 0.6%) it still means that the casino expects to make an overall profit from Blackjack players. Most of this will come from those trying to get twenty one!

But although it may seem that the dealer has the advantage, in certain circumstances the player has the edge.

This is because you are free to play your hands any way you like. You can decide to Hit or Stand on any points total. The dealer is not free. He has to abide by a set of house rules that dictate whether he Stands or takes another card. These rules are set up to ensure the house edge in the long run, but they don’t always work in the dealer’s favour.

(NB There are numerous Blackjack variations, but for the purpose of this article we’ll assume you’re playing one of the versions that has the standard rule that the dealer must stand on seventeen.)

Consider the situation: you have a points total of thirteen and the dealer has a five showing. You know he’s going to Hit the five because the House rules dictate that. His next card is always going to leave him on a points total less than seventeen, so you know he’ll have to take another card after that. Even if his next card was an eight, nine, ten (or picture card) or Ace, meaning he had a higher total than you, he couldn’t stand – he’d have to take another card, increasing the likelihood of him going bust (over twenty one).

If you thought that Blackjack was about you getting twenty one, you’d be tempted to Hit your thirteen, hoping for an eight. But you could just as easily get a nine or ten value card and go bust. Now, knowing that you just have to beat the dealer and that taking two more cards means that he has a fairly high chance of going bust, you’d Stand on thirteen.

I can guarantee there aren’t many beginners out there who would think of standing on thirteen, as if there’s something shameful about winning on such a low score, but I can also guarantee that there are thousands of successful Blackjack players who do!

Of course, your decisions are never going to be completely accurate as you can only see one of the dealer’s cards, but basic probability and a little bit of intuition will give you an indication as to his total.

Winning at Blackjack, then, is a simple matter of calculated risk. Given your total and the dealer’s shown card, what is the most likely result that can occur? The answer, as always, is: it depends. But in Blackjack, the variables are much less than for games such as Roulette and the best strategy can be predicted.

Numerous strategy cards exist that show you what you should do under every possible combination of your hand and the dealer’s face up card. Learning these should be your ultimate aim if you want to be a winning Blackjack player.

If you’re relatively new to the game, you may find these cards a little daunting. That’s why I’ve devised a simple 3-stage Blackjack strategy that will take you from beginner to high stakes Blackjack player with the minimum of fuss. Best of all, it’s completely free! Just visit Fortune Palace (see the resource box below) and check it out. And you can also play Blackjack there for free, courtesy of our recommended casinos.

So forget twenty one, and remember – to win at Blackjack all you have to do is beat the dealer!

Roulette 101 – How To Play The Game

By Richard Legg

Although roulette has lagged behind slots, video poker, blackjack and craps as big game attractions in American casinos, it has steadily gained popularity over the years and has developed into one of the crowd drawers in the United States today. A growing number of gamers have grown to love and enjoy the game, and lots more are following in their wake. I have prepared this article with the hopes of providing the necessary information for beginning players.

Learn the Basics

There are usually a maximum of eight players seated at the roulette table, playing against the house, which is represented by the dealer (also known as a croupier). Other players and observers of the game are also usually seen grouped around the table. The dealer spins the roulette wheel, as well as handling the bets and payouts.

The play begins after the dealer has cleared the table of all losing bets and finished paying out the winners from the previous spin. Before starting the next spin, players are given enough time to choose what numbers to bet on and to place their corresponding wagers on the table. Even after the wheel has started spinning, players can still place their bets up until the moment when the ball is about to jump off the track and into one of the numbered slots.

At this moment, the dealer will call out, “No more bets”, and players will no longer be allowed to place or change their bets until the wheel stops spinning and the ball lands on a numbered slot. The dealer will then place a marker on the winning number, clear the table of all losing wagers, and pay off the players that have bet on the winning number or on a combination that includes the winning number. After the dealer clears out all the losing bets off the table, you can start placing your bets while the dealer pays the winners.

How to win

A player needs to predict (or at least make a lucky guess) where the ball will land in order to win at roulette. But doing this is easier said than done, apparently. You need to be lucky more than anything to come up a winner at this game. Some players go the methodical way and play the game using a specific system, of which there are plenty to be found online. Some players follow a set of “lucky numbers”, while others may observe which numbers have come up repeatedly or not at all, and base their wagers on that. To increase their chances of winning, players may bet on a group of numbers, such as dozens, a specific color, etc.

The payouts

A straight-up bet, which means betting on a single number only, pays 35 to 1.

Betting on two adjacent numbers, called a split bet, pays 17 to 1.

Betting on a three-number combo, called a street bet, pays 11 to 1.

Betting on four numbers, called a corner bet, pays 8 to 1.

Betting on a six-number combination pays 5 to 1.

A bet on the outside dozen or column pays 2 to 1.

A bet on the outside even money bets pays 1 to 1.

Winning Strategy At Roulette

By Richard Legg

Everyone knows that roulette is a game based on chance rather than skill. However, this knowledge has driven many people to think that hints and tips are useless in this game, since skill isn't a factor whether you win or lose. This is simply not true at all. There are still several tips that you can use to improve the way you play and approach the game, which can lead to more wins for you. I've prepared a few of the the most important ones:

Pick European roulette – Most of the online casinos nowadays offer players a choice of both American and European roulette. Some land-based casinos are getting in on the act, too. So what's the better choice? European roulette's wheel has only one zero slot, while the American wheel has two zero slots. Now, it's a better choice for you to pick the European wheel, because the single zero slot means that the house advantage is cut back to almost half, as compared to the American version. The smaller house advantage means a bigger chance for you to win.

Know your bets – Never bet on the single numbers if you can help it. They are cursed with probably the worst odds in all the casino games today. The house advantage on single number bets is so huge that it is actually rare to see a player win. And if someone actually wins, it's usually after a sizable amount of bets was placed and lost before the winning bet came up. Pick the smart bets; those are the ones that pay out as close to even money as possible, because they have the smallest house advantage in the game.

Playing for fun, not for profit – Yes, I know that you're playing roulette not for your health, but because you want to win some money (or a lot of it). But the logic behind this is that playing for fun means you are more relaxed and comfortable with what is going on at the table, so you are more likely to make good decisions that will affect your game. If you're only playing for money, you will become stressed out sooner or later, which means more foolish mistakes in the long run. If you're looking to play roulette as a means of livelihood, I strongly advise you to stop right there. Roulette should be played as a game, not as a source of income.

Set your bankroll – This one follows the last tip I gave you. And this counts not only for roulette, but for all other gambling games you play. Set aside an amount of money that you are prepared to gamble with, and never play more than that. If you lose your money, you were prepared for it anyway. But if you play more than what you initially set, you'll soon see yourself chasing after your money and incurring even more losses in the bargain.

Set aside your winnings – It's always a good idea to set aside your winnings, no matter how big or small they may be. Play with just your set budget, and don't touch your winnings at all. This way, you'll still have some money left even if you lose your set budget. But if you play with your winnings as well and you lose them all, you go home with absolutely nothing in your pocket. Think about it: walking away with a little something is better than walking away with nothing.

What Makes Resin Model Cars So Special?

By Kadence Buchanan

The model car is ever in demand today as most people can't afford to do much of anything else. Gas is too high to go anywhere, so more and more families are staying home and taking part in the hobbies they had neglected with time. The more rare the model kit, the more it cost the individual. Another price that is rising is what is called resin model cars, but they don't cost nearly as much as the rarer car models. This is what is causing more model car companies to switch to resin. So, for those of you who are wondering what resin cars are just keep reading.

A Basic Definition

Resin cars are those model cars that are made out of this material. It's called resin of course, but what it is, is actually a plastic that is really a cast and not what used to be known as injection-molded. Due to the lessening of the injection-molded types of model cars, the machines that were once used to make them are no longer needed. The resin kits don't cost as much as the kits whose materials are made out of polystyrene. But they are pretty expensive.

So, how do marketers determine what to charge for these new resin brands? One thing that determines the price of these model cars are the volume at which they are producing the cars, as well as how well these models turn out. The quality at which they are developing them is the big determining factor as to how much they go for when you buy them off the shelf at the store of your choice. Not only is there a difference in prices for these model cars, but the different types of materials affects you the buyers as well. Those model cars made out of resin are different from those older types in the fact that there is more to do when you put them together. The resin material is more brittle, and when you sand this material, you should really wear a mask as the fumes are more toxic. When you put the model together, you might need different materials. This is due to the fact that the chemicals in the two seem to be different, and may require different glue as well as different paint. But the resin seems to be sturdier.

The Benefits for Producer and Consumer

Companies have seen that their buyers are a bit more pleased with the resin cars. This is to say that, for once, a company listened to its buyers and created something that could help them both out. The cars hold up a lot longer. Plus, people who have made model building an addicting habit haven't been spending so much out of their pocket. It's a win-win situation for everyone. Of course, people using the resin cars have more work ahead of them, and should take more precautions with the chemical components they use to piece the kits together; they do enjoy a better overall experience. A good compromise for both parties involved, if I do say so myself, being a fan of putting these kits together.

Among the Favorites: Die Cast Models

By Kadence Buchanan

Since the beginning of the production of model cars, there have been a total of ninety-six different brands of model cars. Over a period of time, some of them have closed down, resulting in today twelve that are no longer up and running. Among those that are still going strong are the ever popular companies that use the die cast model to create their cars.

The Kinds of Models

There are four scales in which the die cast models are built. These are: 1:18, 1:24, 1:48, and 1:43. The models that are created today are based off of real existing cars. They include much more detail from these cars so that they match the description as much to the T as possible. They do try to make some of the things function. While the steering wheel and the wheels might not work, you can normally open the doors and the trunk, as well as the hood on the 1:32, 1:48, and 1:43 scale cars. This is better than the first die cast models that didn't have any real life action whatsoever. The reason for adding this was to beat the competition brought on by different parts of the world who were adding more and more detail to make these model cars almost life-like, just miniature. Before long, they added more things such as working suspensions, headlights, and other features as well.

Who Makes the Models?

The United States and The United Kingdom were the first two countries to market the die cast models right after Matchbox was created. It was slow at first. Models were offered for order in catalogues, but as the popularity increased they began to cater to the wishes of their clientele. What were once basic models with no special features changed in the 1970's when buyers wanted the cars to depict the cars of their dreams. In the 1980's there was licensing to the die cast models. This meant that the different companies that produced die cast models would sign agreements that license them to make replicas of cars that particular car companies manufacture. The companies can even have their logos imprinted on the car and they also enter into the agreements. Some of these licensing agreements are for companies to produce models that the car companies no longer produce. Examples of the premium models being described here are produced by firms such as: Franklin Mint, Danbury Mint, and Fairfield Mint. Other examples of some of the lower end die cast model producers include companies such as: Maisto, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and Corgi.

These companies have been bringing fun to people for almost fifty years. They have allowed people to use their creative minds to paint cars in the colors that they see fit. They have let the mind wander as to what sort of car every boy and girl wishes to have. Men have been included in this as well, as real life sets in, and bills have to be paid. What more could a man ask for in a toy that has become so popular after all?

Roulette Strategy Tips

By Richard Legg

Despite its growing popularity, many people still play roulette the wrong way. For example, I have seen many players start with a set bankroll, then keep playing until it's all used up. Of course, this isn't what they planned, but usually it's how their game ends up. If you want to play roulette seriously, the first thing you should do is to be aware of what you are doing and not doing properly.

Sometimes it's hard to believe, but there are people who instantly flood the table with chips the moment they arrive at the roulette table. They place a small amount here, a bigger amount there; just to satisfy that inner voice inside them that's always telling them where to bet and how. What they don't know is that they are just playing with the poorest value of bets that the table has. So even if they win, the amount they get is just a little more – or even less – than what they originally wagered.

This may be an exciting way to play, but if you're playing for money, you will ultimately find that you're at the losing end of the stick. Have you taken note of all the winnings and losses you've had while playing this way? If you have, then you would discover that you have just been betting against yourself. You should play the game in a way that maximizes your odds of winning, and winning big. It's not a good idea to bet more than what is needed to win the same amount. If you get carried away and start placing more and more bets on more numbers, you will lose a growing amount every round without you knowing it.

You have to expect that you'll lose the value of your average bet for every round over 37 games. So if you're betting $10 each spin of the wheel, you should expect to lose $10 after 37 spins, if the odds are running accurately. Yes, the odds aren't the same for each and every game, but this should give you an idea of what you are up against. This is the house's advantage over the players. Putting it simply, the more you bet, the more you should expect to lose over a certain period of time.

If you want to walk away a winner, remember to drag yourself away from the table when you've won a reasonable amount. However, this is also the most difficult time to walk away, because you're feeling great and you feel like you could win a lot more if you stay for only a couple more spins. Sadly, it doesn't work like that at all. You could win more, but there's always the chance of losing on the next spin, and you will just end up chasing your winnings. You should always set yourself a cut-off point, win or lose. When you reach it, walk away from the table.

Try to place a bet on red or black, and bet 5% of the total amount you're prepared to lose. Keep placing the same bet, whether you win or lose, until you win at least half the amount you started with, or lose the whole bankroll. Playing red/black or odd/even slightly cuts the house advantage to your favor, since you stand to lose only half your bet when the ball lands on a zero.

Another good strategy for you to try is to place a bet on red, two bets on row 1-36, and another two bets on row 2-35. Take note that the table is divided into three rows – 1-34, 2-35, and 3-36. Further note that row 3-36 has eight red numbers and only four black numbers. The strategy I just gave you takes advantage of this fact.

Using this strategy, you will win most of the time. If the ball lands on a number within row 3-36, the odds increase in our favor because there are more red numbers there than black. And even if the ball lands within one of the three rows over the next several rounds (as it most likely will), we have already covered two out of three rows, so our chances are also good on this one. And of course, we're also hoping that the ball keeps landing on red more than black, too.

Whatever strategy you use, remember to think ahead and plan for the long term. Take into account that the ball has no memory, and that the chances of getting a number is always the same, even after a torrid streak. But also remember that you are gambling, so you're in a situation where you stand to lose your money in the hopes of winning some, but there are no guarantees.

CCTV Security Cameras and Friday Night Poker

By Nahshon Roberts

Poker or Texas Hold 'Em?

A friendly game of poker in your home is a welcome entertainment for friends who are tired of doing the rounds of bars and clubs. Hosting a game of home poker is legal as long as the game is not played for the host's profits and the stakes are within legal limits. So there is no legal impediment when it comes to hosting a poker game at home but there may be trouble if you pepper the poker room with CCTV security cameras.

When planning a grand poker party, there are things you should do first like asking the people you have invited if they prefer Poker or Texas Hold 'Em. When the people troop to your doorstep everybody is ready to play the game, whether it is poker or Texas Hold 'Em. But if they know you have CCTV security cameras in your poker room, no one will be knocking on your door on Friday night.

It becomes a toss-up between having some CCTV security cameras in the gaming room or not. If you have to have a spy camera in the room, don't aim its focus on the table, but if you must have them let the people know that the CCTV security camera is not focused on the cards but rather on the door to keep track of people coming and going. Should they smell a spy camera without your telling them, you can be sued for breaching their privacy.

Everyone knows that casinos are littered with CCTV security cameras. But a friendly game of poker at home does not need sophisticated spy gadgetry. Unless you are hosting a poker game and an all-nighter at the same time, you need security cameras to protect your house from intruders.

Preparing for Friday Night Poker

Planning a poker party is easy. Call your friends and ask them over on Friday and inform them that you will all be playing poker. Tell them that there is one not a slew of CCTV security cameras in the gaming room and assure them that it is there to track people entering and going out of the room and for everybody's security too. You can ask them to bring their wireless camera detectors for good measure to satisfy them.

For the party prepare a 52 card deck and poker chips and other poker paraphernalia. Set a red tablecloth with black hemming for a card effect. For your round table, a round stained glass lamp will be nice. If you have more players, use an octagon poker table that can seat seven players or a 79"x36" folding table with 10 player positions.

Crank up your jazz collection. Turn on the grill for barbecue treats, and whip up salsa and dips to go with tortilla chips. Prepare tons of sandwiches and drinks, players are always hungry and thirsty; plied with food and drink and an exciting game of poker your poker party will be talked about for weeks, with no mention of your CCTV security cameras because they know about the one in the poker room, so it is no big deal.

Sure Fire Ways to Beat Roulette

By Stephen Slater

When trying to beat the game of roulette, the winning is all in the numbers. When the player takes the time to notice the patterns of the wheel, they will end up a winner in the end.

Pivot System Roulette

If the player wants to beat the game of roulette using the pivot system, they will need to take note of all the winning numbers on the roulette wheel. The player is looking for the first winning number to repeat. That repeating number is called the pivot number and will be the number the player will bet in order to beat the game.

An adequate example of a winning number sequence may be 12, 15, 17, 20, 22, 12. The number 12 is now the pivot number and the number the player will bet on the wheel.

The player will now bet the number 12 for 36 rolls or until the number hits as a winner. The odds when betting any particular individual number on the roulette wheel pays out 35 to 1. This means the player will have a total of 36 chances to win a huge profit or at the very least break even in the game. When the number 12 hits, the player will need to start the process all over again at the same wheel or as an option, move to another table and find the pivot again.

The law of unequal distribution, a mathematical rule, is at the heart of beating the game of roulette. When measured for a short period of time, the chances of all 37 numbers hitting in a row is slim to none. But, when measured over thousands of rolls, all numbers will hit the same amount of times.

Austrian System Roulette

Another way to beat the game of roulette is with the Austrian system. In order to use this method of beating the roulette wheel, the player will need to memorize the spots on the roulette table where the chips will be placed. The idea is to cover as many numbers as possible with the least amount of chips. The player will place 6 chips on the first column and 6 chips on the third column. Additional chips will be placed between the numbers 0 and 00, in American roulette, 8 and 11, 17 and 20 and 26 and 29.

Every time one of the 32 covered numbers hits, the player will be a winner on 2 of the chips bet. This system will return a winner in 85% of all bets and winning the game of roulette and beating the game of roulette can only be measured by the amount of money won at the end of a hand.

The player may find themselves asking, what happens if I lose all 16 chips? How can I beat this game with those chances? According to mathematical rules, this will only happen 15% of the time. That means the player will win more often than lose and thus beat the game of roulette.

Beating any casino game is all about winning money. The pivot theory and the Austrian theory are two ways of winning the game of roulette.

Choosing The Best Gambling Site

By Richard Legg

Sometimes, you just get the feeling that the world of online gaming is a bewildering cacophony of flash banners, pop-ups, overloaded menus filled with too much information, and a confusing array of too much promotions and bonuses. This will surely leave you in a dizzy state, trying to make sense of all these online gaming stuff, when all you want to do is play some casino games or spend a few hours at your favorite card table.

Knowing where to go and how to begin playing online will save players a whole lot of time and money, and it will also allow them to enjoy their gaming experience more. People would think that picking out a gambling site from the myriad of options on the Internet is a simple affair. Perhaps they select their first casino based on who gives the highest payouts, or which one gives the highest stakes. While these factors certainly play a major role in helping you choose your online gaming venue, there are a few other important aspects to keep in mind, some of which may be neglected.

Payouts – Since every casino wants to be in on the “Top Ten” list of online casino reviews, finding an online casino with the highest payouts may be a bit difficult. The best thing to do in this case is to go to a well-established gambling resource website and read their reviews for the casinos listed there. You can also check out the winner lists at your favorite casino site, if you already have one in mind. As a rule of thumb, all the better gambling sites have these lists. Plus, if they are a member of the Interactive Gaming Council (IGC), they are required to be truthful of their advertising, which can add more confidence to your decision making.

Downloads – If you’re like me, you don’t like to spend several minutes of your time downloading software without having any idea what they’re getting. And that includes casino software. To help you out, the better casino sites feature a “Preview” page where you can view screenshots or even short videos to give you a better idea what you’re downloading. Some online casinos even provide tutorials for beginners that are just learning how to play. Downloading a software for 10 minutes and realizing that you don’t like it after all can be annoying, to say the least. The “Preview” section will show you beforehand what you’re getting, so look for it and use it before you start downloading.

Licensing – There has been some heated arguments over this issue, but basically, it all comes down to the casino itself. Regulating online casinos can be tough, since it’s pretty much a voluntary compliance issue with them. The casino decides whether or not it wants to be licensed and regulated, or not. For example, an online casino buys a license in Antigua costing $100,000. Now they can say they are “licensed”. But mind you, there will be no more follow-ups and no compliance rules to obey. They don’t have to do this licensing thing at all.

So where does that leave you? Fortunately, there is an organization of online casinos called the Interactive Gaming Council, or IGC. The IGC members are all required to follow their “Ten Points of Conduct”, which requires member casinos to be legally licensed, submit themselves to fair play testing, and maintain strict privacy controls over their clients’ financial information, among other things. Membership is still voluntary, but being an IGC member shows good faith on part of the casino, so the player can get some comfort from this.
