I Cannot Lose Weight - Stumbling Block On The Road To Weight Loss

If you are struggling to lose weight and you are saying in desperation "I cannot lose weight" it is possible that you are stumbling over on or more of the stumbling blocks on the road to successful slimming and that is why you are saying I cannot lose weight!

To have success in your efforts it is important to be aware of these stumbling blocks on the road to weight loss. What is even more important is that you have to know how to avoid these stumbling blocks on the road to weight loss.

The very first stumbling block is unrealistic expectations. You have to make sure you know what is possible. Keep your body in mind. If you are big boned you are never going to be really "small" but you can be the best you can possibly be.

Another unrealistic expectation is that you can lose 50 pounds in a matter of days. That is simply not possible and losing too much weigh in too short a time is not good for your health at all. It is also the starting point for the well know "yo-yo" diet syndrome.

The next stumbling block, closely related to the unrealistic expectations is skipping meals. When you are trying to get rid of some fat, skipping meals are not a good idea. You may think that you will eat less if you skip a meal, but as a matter of fact you will probably eat more!

When you skip meals you allow yourself to get very hungry and that makes it far more possible that you will "cheat." If you do manage not to eat anything until the next meal, you will be so hungry that you will probably overindulge at your next meal.

It is also very important to realize that you need to eat all your meals to ensure your body gets all the nutrition it needs. This will in all probability lead to malnutrition and that will not be good for your efforts of shedding some pounds.

So, if you are saying "I cannot lose weight" make sure you do not stumble over one of these stumbling blocks on the road to weight loss.

A Healthy Pregnancy Means A Healthy Baby!

Most people's idea of a healthy lifestyle involves: eating right, sleeping enough, getting a decent amount of exercise, and abstaining from unhealthy behaviors like smoking, excessive drinking, etc' Although this may be enough for the average individual, for women who are pregnant it is not even close. Pregnant women should be taking a number of steps to ensure they remain healthy during pregnancy; for their own benefit, as well as to do everything possible to guarantee a risk-averse birth, for the sake of the child. These steps range from making regular visits to a health care provider, to eating correctly, and taking adequate health supplements.

During the beginning of a pregnancy women should visit their doctor at least once a month to ensure the baby is developing properly, and to make sure the mother is staying healthy during this crucial time. Towards the end of pregnancy, the last two months or so, women should begin visiting their doctor more frequently, every couple of weeks.

Apart from visiting the doctor, whether in the first week, or just before birth, there are a number of things a woman can be doing on her own to help ensure a healthy pregnancy. First, a healthy diet is critical. There are three essential nutrients that a body needs more of during pregnancy than any other time: Calcium, Iron, and Folic Acid. There are a number of ways a woman can make sure to get enough of these nutrients, namely, eating correctly and supplementing her diet with prenatal nutrients. Eating correctly in this case simply means eating a balanced diet of meat, grains, fruits, vegetables, and dairy. There are many different kinds of prenatal vitamins, and each comes with its own pros and cons. Perfect Prenatal is one of the few such vitamins that contain 100% organic ingredients, cultured with soy, to avoid digestive problems often encountered with other prenatal vitamins.

There are many other things pregnant women can do to help ensure a healthy pregnancy, but visiting a doctor on a regular basis, maintaining a healthy diet, and supplementing that diet with prenatal supplements are three things that anyone who is pregnant should definitely be doing.

Prayer’s Scientific Power

Submitted By: Deborah Lindholm

The mind body connection is full of powerful and amazing implications. Dr. Herbert Benson who founded the BHI, Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine is a professor at Harvard Medical School. The institute is a part of Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Benson believes physical health is highly influenced by behaviors, feelings and thoughts, as well as these same behaviors, feelings and thoughts being influenced by physical symptoms. Another of life’s amazing cycles revealed.

We still don’t have a concrete understanding of how a person’s behaviors, feelings and thoughts are able to affect the development of disease as well as the body’s ability to recover. Yes, we are aware of the fact some people have the ability to change their own thoughts with prayer with seemingly miraculous results such as the reversal of a terminal condition. However we still have to work on discovering exactly how these beliefs and thoughts affect our body. We do know that mind and body communicate constantly. What our mind experiences, thinks or perceives allows our brain to send such information to the rest of our body directly and steadily.

For centuries people have been influencing there health, as well as the health of others through prayer. This mind body approach towards medicine works at teaching patients to change their thought patterns, reduce stress and changing their behaviors to remove any negativity, all while embracing their beliefs to better control and prevail over any illness.

Among all of the religions; Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, or Christian, there is a commonality. They all hold deep belief systems in reference to prayer for healing. Online prayer groups, healing rooms and community prayer groups are readily available for everyone all over the world. An article published in the Washington Post says, “Surveys have found that perhaps half of Americans regularly pray for their own health, and at least a quarter have others pray for them.”

It’s not only the religious who promote prayer for an alteration of health. Phenomena of varying kinds have been cited in quantum physics whereby particles from distant locations can affect the behavior of others in somewhat mysterious ways. Therefore, having people praying for you conceivably propels energy towards you which could affect your state of health.

In addition to citations made in the domain of quantum physics, there have been an abundance of various studies conducted over the years which find have found a strong parallel between prayer and health. Theories are being tested continuously as the reasons for this are still unclear.

In one study based at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. consisting of 990 cardiac patients, researchers discovered prayer improved health considering a conducted at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., researchers found prayer improved health based on an amalgamation of scores developed by the researchers for this study.

Heritage.org conducted an interview with Dr. Harold G. Koenig, a tenured Duke University associate professor of psychiatry, an associate professor of medicine, director and founder of the Center for the Study of Religion/Spirituality and Health at Duke University. He cites during this interview several smaller studies. “(In these studies)You find a connection between religious involvement and immune and endocrine function; in five of seven studies, the religious experience lower mortality from cancer; in 14 of 23, they have significantly lower blood pressure; in 11 of 14, they have lower mortality; and in 12 of 13, clergy mortality is lower.”

It is without doubt we can see the significance prayer has on our health as well as our mortality. As scientists work to better define the parameters and work with control groups, we’ll continually gain insight on the connection between mind and body. Until this occurs, grasp the power to know for a fact how our thoughts and beliefs directly affect not only our own health and mortality, but those of others too.

How To Advance Your Career In Healthcare - Get A Master's Degree

Submitted By: Brent McNutt

In most healthcare facilities including nursing, one of the fastest ways to get a managerial position or get into the administrative rank is to get a master's degree in healthcare. Earning a master's degree also allows you to specialize and widen your opportunities for earning a lot more money and having bigger responsibilities. Regardless of the master's degree that you pursue, you can advance your healthcare career and become an administrator, manager, or supervisor. The important thing is that the graduate degree incorporates business and healthcare knowledge and that the program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education. There are numerous healthcare graduate programs you can choose from including MSN, MBA, MHA, MPH and MPA. Below is an overview of the said programs.

Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN)

Masters of Science in Nursing is the graduate program of choice for registered nurses who want to become nurse managers or nurse administrators. MSN programs usually include courses on organizational development, management, budgeting, and healthcare economics. All of the students who take up MSN have previously attained a nursing undergraduate degree or are usually practicing nurses in their discount landau scrubs. In some schools, there are MSN/MBA combined programs offered where nurses take some of their classes with MBA students.

Master's of Business Administration (MBA)

There are also many healthcare executives that have earned a degree in Master's of Business Administration. There are MBA programs that particularly tackle health-care related administration and offer multiple electives for such. In general, MBA focuses more on the business side rather than the healthcare side as opposed to an MHA. Some of the courses include macroeconomics, microeconomics, human resources, and strategic planning. Students who take up MBA as a graduate degree come from diverse backgrounds such as finance, marketing, consulting, manufacturing, and practically any industry.

Master's of Health Administration (MHA)

Master's of Health Administration is the graduate program of choice for many healthcare executives because this program is centered on operating a healthcare facility. The coursework is typically designed around business strategies and administration such as business planning and development, conflict resolution, management strategies, supervision, and marketing. MHA students usually have undergraduate degrees in nursing or healthcare or have experience working in the industry.

Master's of Public Health (MPH)

Master's of Public Health is more concerned with public health issues, environmental health, issues on domestic violence and HIV, and epidemiology and is not really focused on business administration and management techniques. However, there are some courses offered in health services administration. Many MPH graduates go on to work in public health agencies, community service, research, and health education and policy. Students who pursue MPH also come from diverse backgrounds, clinicians and non-clinicians in different stages of their careers.

Master's in Public Administration (MPA)

Master's in Public Administration is not a common graduate program of choice for most healthcare professionals but there are some MPA degree holders who end up as administrators in healthcare. There are programs in MPA that offer healthcare-related curriculum. Students in MPA programs usually enter a career in public service or the government and advance to management and administrative ranks in the local, state, or federal agencies. Those taking up MPA are usually those already in public service including bureaucrats and police officers.

How Does a GlycoNutrient Work in Your Body?

Submitted By: Zachary Clark

Whether this is the first time you've ever heard of a glyconutrient, or you've known about it for a while, you're probably asking: What can a glyconutrient do for me?? First of all, let me very briefly describe how a glyconutrient works in your body: Did you know that your cells have an alphabet that they use to communicate? - A Glyconutrient , which is just a special nutrient, is the alphabet that your cells use to communicate! And unless your cells have all 8 glyconutrients, they can't communicate properly, which means that your body can't operate correctly. When your cells can't communicate properly, they mis-communicate.

Sometimes when your cells mis-communicate, they start killing each other. So, as I think you'll realize, a glyconutrient is absolutely essential for you to feel your best! You need glyconutrient technology!

Why would I want to know more about glyconutrients? If you're anything like me, with all the hype and high powered advertising out there, how could I believe there was anything different out there that might be worth learning more about? Lets look at a few reasons why this glyconutrition manufacturer is different:

1. Some estimate that over 100,000 people in the U.S. died last year from taking "Properly Prescribed Pharmaceutical Drugs". The huge pharmaceutical giants would not want you to hear that. Would you want to put your faith in a system like that?

For many years we were lulled into thinking pharmaceutical drugs were the answer to all our medical problems. In the last few years, however, a growing number of people are losing faith in the system, realizing that drugs don't heal and are not the answer to many of our health concerns. These same people are demanding more natural, non-toxic, and non-invasive methods - like glyconutrition - to support their 'feel great mentality'.

We are dedicated to the belief that the human body is the healer. Rather than address symptoms, our research in glyconutrition addresses the 6 SYSTEMS of the human body:

(1) Communication between cells and systems.
(2) Defense mechanisms.
(3) Repair functions.
(4) Cleansing of toxins etc.
(5) Hormonal regulation
(6) Nutrition

When the systems of the body are supported properly with glyconutrition , the human body is capable staying vibrant. Your body is smarter than you think. Be ahead of this next generation of health care by finding out how you can provide people with the breakthrough products they are looking for.

2. Many companies today are more into hype & rip-off, than hope or reality. We are dedicated to sound science with a true concern for the health and well being of real people. The more you learn about our mission for impacting global health with glyconutrition , the more you will want to share its vision for health with people you care about.

Glyconutrients naturally occur in some foods, including mothers' milk, aloe vera, and goji berries. However, none of these foods are in our normal diets. As a result, these nutrients don't make it into our modern diets. Even if we could find foods that contain these glyconutrients at harvest, by the time they are shipped across the country and hit our dinner table, there is minimal nutrition left.

How Travelling Can Be Good For Your Health

Submitted By: Nick Kakolowski

In past centuries, it was common for individuals with illnesses to have travelling recommended to them as a means of returning to good health. In Victorian London, where the air was dirty and smoggy, it was commonplace for doctors to send ill patients off for vacations in the country as a treatment for many diagnoses. This was beneficial because these citizens were able to escape the poor air, which helps improve their health greatly. Robert Louis Stevenson, author of Treasure Island travelled extensively in the South Pacific not only because it fascinated him, but also because of a health condition that was soothed by the climate of that region.

In our contemporary times of climate control and hospital medicine, we often forget just how beneficial travel can be to our health. Yes, medications and surgeries can solve most of our problems, but there is much more to health then physical well-being. Stress relief, adventure and freedom from routine are all benefits of travel that can do wonders for one’s overall health.

The stresses of our day-to-day lives can be very exhausting. Seasonal allergies combine with insomnia, worry, and the boredom of one’s daily routine keeps us in a state of exhaustion and slight depression for much of our lives. This issue can become even more prevalent in the winter when we are often cooped up indoors for inordinate amounts of time. Sometimes we just need to break out and get away. Travelling is the perfect option to do that. Hop onto a plane, train or bus and visit some exotic location that you have been dying to see, and the results will be plentiful. Not only will you reawaken to the joys that life has to offer, but you will also be reminded of the joys that are present in your everyday life. Take a vacation for a week or two to escape the stress of your daily life. This change is routine will provide relief and you will be fully refreshed by the time you return home. Some time away from work can remind you why you chose the line of work you are in back when you first took the job. All of a sudden, you will be returning to the office with some of that excitement and spark that you brought during your first weeks of employment. The change in climate and surroundings can help relieve you from your allergies and getting away from the hustle and bustle of the house can cure insomnia. In one short trip, your health can be revitalized.

There is a chance, however, that what you need is not a break, but an adventure. Maybe you are just bored and need a bit more than just a change in scenery. Travel to a bustling city and enjoy the nightlife, or go out into the mountains or a desert area for an adventure. Revitalize your body with a change of scenery and change of lifestyle. Try out some new things, who knows, maybe you will find a new fitness activity that you can continue when you get back home. Every person’s body needs a chance to escape a little bit and have some adventure if it is going to function healthily.

Going to new places can expose you to new types of disease and even parasites. This can be a very healthy, immune system building excursion, but if you do not travel prepared, it will not have healthy results. Be sure to get any immunizations you may require for the region you are travelling to before leaving. Get the information on whether or not the drinking water is safe, and how to treat it if it is not. Be sure to remember to pack an ample supply of any prescription medicines you have, and be ready with a few over the counter varieties as well. Travelling can be amazing for your health because it allows your body to take some risks. If you want those risks to be rewarded, you must take care of your body while you travel.

Overall, traveling can do wonderful things for your well-being. Exposing your body to new things can build up the immune system, and do wonders for emotional and spiritual health as well. The way in which travelling gives an individual freedom from the day-to-day routines has an immensely positive affect on the body, allowing it to rest and recuperate. So give yourself the break that you need before your health starts breaking down, and begin planning that next vacation. Next time you are planning a vacation be sure to research the location properly to ensure an enjoyable experience. Wherever you choose to go, the benefit is well worth it and even a change in scenery will benefit your health greatly.

Colon Health is a Matter of Life and Death

Submitted By: Paul Rodgers

Colon health is a topic of lasting human interest and has been since antiquity. Colon health is a matter of life and death, but it is one of the most neglected areas of the body. It is not something most people pay no attention to, especially if none of their family members have suffered colon problems. Colon health is basically helping the healthy bacteria far outnumber the harmful bugs, and thats what you can do for colon health. How can a colon weighing 30 pounds (as many autopsy's find), be healthy. Colon therapists suggest that the typical American diet, which is low in fiber and high in red meat and other fatty foods, is a major contributor to this problem.

Health

The importance of "regularity" to overall health has been greatly overestimated for thousands of years. Careful observations have shown that the bowel habits of healthy individuals can vary greatly. Thus, many illnesses can be caused by an unhealthy colon or can be prevented by maintaining a healthy colon. Incorporating the practice of annual cleansing and detoxification will not only help regain, but also maintain your health so that your later years are productive and joyful.

Cleansing

How do you know if you or your family needs cleansing and detoxification. The answer is : Everyone needs cleansing and detoxification at least once a year. Cleansing the digestive tract helps to assure that the body is digesting and absorbing the necessary amounts of nutrients for repairing and restoring proper tissue functions, tissue healing, and maintaining a healthy body in general. Cleansing the colon helps bring the acid-alkaline ratio back into balance, allowing friendly bacteria to thrive, while inhibiting disease-causing organisms.

Detoxification

As opposed to fasting, detoxification diets can be undertaken for extended periods. Detoxification is the process of eliminating or neutralizing toxins from thebody. The major detoxification therapy categories are: fasting, specific diets, vitamin therapy, colon therapy, chelation therapy, and hyperthermia. Some detoxification methods are potentially dangerous, with side effects ranging from dehydration to bowel perforation. Unsupervised detoxification should not be tried by anyone who is underweight, pregnant, recovering from substance abuse, nor by those suffering from diabetes mellitus, thyroid problems, or an eating disorder.

Herbal Colon Therapy

Today some alternative practitioners continue to use colonic irrigation as part of a basic detoxification program, though many prefer to recommend herbal laxatives in supplement form. Herbal colon therapy is the cornerstone of much of our treatment for bowel conditions in the same way that endonasal therapy is the cornerstone for the treatment of ear, nose and throat diseases. To the uninitiated it might seem that the most obvious reason for the herbal colonic treatment would be for correcting constipation. Although used for constipation, herbal colonic therapy is much more specific in mucous colitis, diverticulosis, various forms of idiopathic diarrheas and other conditions in which the bowel is irritated or overly sensitive. Natural colon cleansing involves taking a balanced diet and additionally, a few herbal supplements that help kill the harmful bacteria and in removing excess of toxins.

Fiber

Fiber provides no nutrients to the body, but it does promote good health because it is very absorbent. Fiber adds roughage to the diet, and so Psyllium plays an important role in digestion and elimination, and can promote regularity and colon health. Ordinary constipation usually can be remedied by increasing the fiber content of the diet, drinking adequate amounts of water, and engaging in regular exercise.

Conclusion

The conclusion is that our health depends on the health of the colon. Therapists have come to the conclusion that colon therapy is not mysterious, is a useful adjunct to detoxification in a variety of illnesses in which the accumulation of toxins plays a major or contributory role to a person's ill health; therefore, washing the lining of the bowel is just as sensible as maintaining cleanliness in other parts of ourselves and, in the modern living environment, there is a tendency for the accumulation of toxins, increased constipation, increased concentration of the residue in the bowel because of a shortage of roughage in the diet; thus cleaning and irrigation is an advantage.

Nine Factors Of Importance For Your Health - What Can You Influence Upon Yourself

Submitted By: Kurt Mattsson

Your health depends upon several factors as your own behavior, your lifestyle, your eating habits, physical work, training and exercise, your social habits, your age, the environment, your senses, and your social situation. These are interdependent, several of them interacting. You can easily influence upon some of them, while you might be stuck in others and have severe difficulties to come around them.

1. Behavior

To be born in a peaceful community and to be brought up properly lays a ground for good health. Then it is up to you whether you choose or have the characteristics to make you avoid bad influence and habits.

Drugs, criminality, violence does not promote health. Just as bad is of course to become a victim of crime, living with an alcoholic or violent person can be ruining for your life. There is no easy way out if you are in such trouble .

2. Lifestyle

The modern society with double-working parents, children with numerous leisure time activities causes stress and split up days for the whole family. There is too little time for rest and recovery for too many of us. We end up having a whole range of diseases originating from this lifestyle. If we do not manage to handle the situation can this on the other hand lead to loss of the employment, economic problems, house foreclosure etc. The problem is complex and needs careful analysis before action is taken.

3. Social habits

The possibility to live in a peaceful and friendly surrounding has a strong influence on our health, the contrary leads to the opposite. Mobbing is a growing problem in schools. Some working places suffer from archaic structures and others have a too strongly competitive spirit leaving no room for human feelings and recovery after fulfilled efforts. Again matters not so easy to tackle!

4. Eating habits

The fall of the food pyramid and the diet circle has created a multiple choice of food gurus with different ideas of how our eating habits should be to give best possible odds for healthy life.

It is also certain that we totally have lost control of what we eat. The situation reminds me of the sausage dealer, who on his death bed whispered the best and most important advice he could give to his very best friend: “Eat never sausage!” Most people interpret this story: The dying old man alone knew what ingredients the sausage consisted of and advised strongly against eating it. That is exactly our relation to the food we eat. We believe that we know what we eat but some components in the food should horrify us, were we aware of them. Not all such ingredients are subject to any control but the manufacturers.

This is something that can be dealt with. You can after all find a common nominators from most food gurus and the rest can be solved by common sense.

5. Physical work, exercise and training

A physical work is training in itself, but can if too one- sided wear you down.

Exercise and training help us to cope with an intensive life, which is positive but can also enhance the stress itself. Different modes of exercise are favorable to address or prevent various problems. Some leisure sports as golf are quite time consuming, which formerly led to that golfers used to be fairly old. It is best for a traditional family if both wife and husband play, but there are still quite a lot of golf widows around, at least here in Sweden.
Simply do not sit down too much, move and try to have fun while doing it!

6. Age

We expect our health to grow worse while we become older. The experience teaches us this as a fact and what we have learnt in school does not contradict the expectation. Would it still be possible to stop the aging or at least slow it down? Many experts leave such options open. We will therefore scrutinize their claims to find out what appears to be probable, possible or less likely. A former Swedish Cross Country Champion used to say - and still says - “Nothing is impossible”.

7. Environment

Our expected life length depends very much of where we live. People in poor areas have in average shorter life time then people in richer areas. The death reason in the poor areas is mainly related to the poverty itself, on the contrary wealthy people die of wellbeing related diseases. Allergy is common in wealthy areas in the same town where it does not occur at all in the same proportions in poor areas. There is a lot to be learnt from extreme differences in living environment, we will drill into what in coming articles.

8. Senses

It is of course a very big handicap to be blind, deaf or dumb. It is remarkable though how nature can compensate for such defiances. Even less severe problems with senses have a thorough impact upon our health. Reduced hearing is something you pay dearly in your social life. Reduced sights exclude you from driving a car. You are not likely to be a successful professional marketer, if your speech is poor. Such limitations can on the other hand be overcome, there are good examples thereof.

9. Social situation

New types of home life are created as heterosexual pairs are mixed with homosexual ones and the number of singles increase. The latter especially is sometimes a lonely alternative, which may or may not be self chosen. Modern society is on its way reorganize itself to meet this challenge.

Mental Health Tips For Surviving The Recession

Submitted By: Kevin Kielty

As more and more people are feeling the stress of the recession, it can be more important than ever to take care of your mental health. These tips can help you keep the recession blues at bay.

Take time out

Prayer or meditation can be very relaxing. Take time out in the morning and in the evening to practice rituals that soothe your soul. Nature can have some powerful healing qualities as well. Visit a local park or lake or take a hike in the country. Take your dog along with you too. Pets can be very soothing, and studies have shown that they can bring a person’s anxiety level down.

Take it easy on yourself

This isn’t the time to beat yourself up. Many people are in the same boat, through no fault of their own. Be careful about the self-disparaging remarks, the one thing you can control is your attitude. Practice positive thinking to encourage your self every day.

Spend time with friends

Healthy positive relationships with friends and family can go a long way towards chasing away the blues. Human beings are social, and we require good relationships to be at our best. That doesn’t mean chatting with someone via e-mail or text message, we need personal contact with one another. So call up a friend or family member you have not seen in a while and make plans to get together.

Volunteering can be another way to get more social interaction. When you volunteer not only will you be helping yourself, you will get the good feeling of helping others.

Exercise

Exercise can invigorate you and make you feel better about yourself. Especially if you see a few extra pounds coming off in the process. Exercise is also a great stress reliever, so don’t let your exercise routine slip during this time. Try to find some activity that you enjoy so that your exercise routine can be fun as well. If your old routine is getting boring, sign-up for some classes, try yoga or tai chi for example.

Eat a healthy diet

Find out what the correct calorie intake is for your age, height and sex and try to eat the right amount of calories each day. Fill up first on healthy fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Save the high calorie sweets for last and remember to drink plenty of water.

Get your rest

Get plenty of sleep. Getting a sufficient amount of sleep goes a long way towards improving mental health. Most people need around eight hours a night, some more and some less. Having an evening routine can help you to gear-down and get to sleep at night and avoid any caffeine after 2:00 p.m.

Seek help

If you have followed these tips and are still having difficulty coping, seek out professional help. Talk to your clergy or a trusted friend or seek out a qualified mental health professional. If finances are a problem, look for a local area mental health center where they have a sliding fee schedule.

Remember that we will eventually come out of the recession. To weather the storm however, a healthy outlook will be necessary. Taking care of yourself physically and emotionally during this rough time will ensure that you will be best able to weather the storm.

Understanding the Stimulus Package

Submitted By: John Parks

The Stimulus Package

There are several key points featured in the Obama Administration's Stimulus Package: Health, Education and Infrastructure. Understanding this stimulus package is difficult at best until these key points are viewed as intended.

Healthcare

Critical to any society is maintaining good health care for all. Imagine a society where illness is rampant. The cost to government for negligently ignoring the sick, dying and those who will become ill due to lack of proper health care will necessarily be borne by taxpayers in one form or another. Originally, health care was provided in the US by employers because many workplace environments were dangerous. Employers worried about lawsuits from improper adherence to worker safety. This aspect of health care is largely forgotten by many corporations and small businesses. Health care became an employee benefit offered by employers. In time, employers who offered the very best health care benefits competed against other employers. As a result of health care becoming a hugely profitable industry, health care benefits became unaffordable for businesses and costs were passed on to employees, reducing salaries and future income. So, the focus on health care in the US is one that should be part of a stimulus package in order to allow employee salaries to stabilize, businesses to afford health care benefits for employees and to stabilize government programs tied to health care.

Education

Over the past several decades, education has become a virtual industry. From elementary school to college, the cost to educate a single child has become astronomical. Many college students leave college paying huge student loans only to find their degree is inadequate to today's hi-tech industries, leaving many college graduates without employment. Re-education and reining in education costs is crucial to stabilizing the economy of the US. No other country of the world spends as much on education and yet, the end result is lack of adequate education for current industries. Blue-collar jobs are virtually extinct. Many people will require some form of re-education in order to fit into today's employment market.

Infrastructure

No country can call itself safe for citizens if roads are deteriorating, bridges collapse and housing is built on unsafe, polluted tracts of land. The Obama Stimulus Package rightly addresses this issue by providing funding for numerous infrastructure projects. However, an enormous amount of oversight will be required to avoid unscrupulous contractors from throwing good money into bad contracts.

The Stimulus Package Network

The Stimulus Package is in actuality a networked plan that some may conclude involves "earmarks". The reality is that health care, education and infrastructure has been seriously ignored as a budget priority for decades. As a result, jobs in these sectors have vanished in huge numbers. The biggest problem attached to the Stimulus Package is controlling free-spending politicians who will use funding to the detriment of its expressed purpose: Shoring up the economy and helping to reinvest in national priorities. If Stimulus funding is spent foolishly, the end result will be higher taxes on the middle and working classes with no relief or financial stability. Without full and transparent accountability, the Stimulus Package could become a national liability.

Government Measures to Help With Health Insurance

Submitted By: Kevin Kielty

Changes to COBRA and the State Children's Health Insurance Program can provide valuable assistance to those recently unemployed.

The rising unemployment rate is causing not just job loss but also the loss of valuable health insurance coverage for many people. In response, the federal government has enacted new legislation to help with COBRA coverage as well as state aid to families with children.

Changes to COBRA

COBRA stands for the Consolidated Omnibus Reconciliation Act of 1986. Under COBRA, if you worked for a company that had more than 20 employees, then you are able to continue on the group health insurance plan for as much as 18 months. The downside of COBRA is that it can be quite expensive. In most states, recipients report that COBRA payments account for more than 75% of their unemployment benefit. However, under the recently passed Economic Stimulus Package, you could be eligible for assistance with 65% of your COBRA premium.

To qualify for the program you must have lost your job between September 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009. Your income must be less than $125,000 for an individual and less than $250,000 a year for a family. If you did not take advantage of COBRA initially, you can still sign up for it. If you did sign up for COBRA coverage, you won't get any money back for the premiums you have already paid, but you will be eligible for assistance from the point after the law has taken effect. Under the new law you will pay 35% of the premium, and the government pays the other 65%. Your assistance could continue for as much as nine months.

State Children's Health Insurance Program

Another measure the federal government has taken recently to help people with health insurance coverage is to expand the State Children's Health Insurance Program or SCHIP. The law will provide $32 billion to the program over the next five years and expand coverage to from 7 to 11 million children. SCHIP is designed to provide health care coverage for children up to age 19 and pregnant women, in families whose income is low, but not low enough to qualify for Medicaid. A portion of the funding will come from an increase in the tax on cigarettes.

Under SCHIP, the federal government provides the states with matching funds to provide health care for families with children. To qualify, families could earn only up to 200% of the poverty level. Under the new law, families can earn up to 300% of the poverty level and still qualify for SCHIP. Each state has set up their program differently, so programs can vary from state to state.

If you find yourself out of a job and out of health insurance, two recent measures by the federal government may provide some assistance. The first are changes to the COBRA program in which the government could pick up to 65% of the cost of your health insurance premium. The other is the expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program. Either of these options could provide short-term assistance with health insurance coverage for the recently unemployed.

Resveratrol Recommended Dosage, Resveratrol Pills & Resveratrol Extract For Cancer Prevention

Submitted By: Valerie Rosenbaum

If you are looking for a resveratrol recommended dosage for a specific health problem, you might ask a practitioner of traditional Japanese or Chinese herbal medicine about the appropriate dose of Japanese knotweed. Of course, they would only recommend the plant for use as a laxative, to relieve constipation or promote regularity.

Japanese knotweed is the most concentrated source of resveratrol and is the source for most dietary supplements. It is found in grape skins and peanuts, too. But, the supplement only appeared on shelves after news reports proclaimed that it was “the” compound in red wine that accounted for the health benefits of the beverage.

Later, conflicting research concluded that it could not account for the benefits, because the concentration was too low. That result never made it to the mass media. When the studies about red wine were released, vineyards wanted to have it classified as a “health food”. People, wanting to do everything that they can for their health, are prone to jump on the bandwagon and drive up demand for foods, beverages and supplements. That’s what happened with resveratrol supplements in 2006.

There are dozens of different manufacturers and none of them seem to agree on a daily resveratrol recommended dosage. Generally, if you wanted this kind of dietary supplement, you would be interested in the protective or preventative benefits, such as those that pertain to the heart and to preventing cancer. But, if you greatly exceed the amount that is present in nature, there could be a problem.

A liter of red wine with the highest concentration would only contain 12.59mg of the compound. The dried knotweed root contains as much as 187mg/kg or .187mg/gram. So, if a practitioner suggested 24 grams to relieve severe constipation, the patient would only receive about 4.48mg of resveratrol.

If a supplement company lists a resveratrol recommended dosage at 200mg or higher, you will almost surely experience diarrhea, which could lead to dehydration and is not beneficial for your health. At higher dosages, which are found in some of the supplements on the market, all of the known health benefits of this potent antioxidant are negated, because it becomes a pro-oxidant, meaning that it is something like a free radical, which is what antioxidants normally neutralize.

There is a lot of misinformation on the internet. Let me set the record straight. For the long-term health benefits of decreased cancer risk and cardiovascular health, a 20-50mg daily dose is sufficient. That’s according to a well respected chemist, nutritionist and doctor of naturopathic medicine.

He suggests that this resveratrol recommended dosage be combined with other beneficial extracts and essential nutrients that will allow you to feel better and possibly, live longer. What we want to strive for is the “optimal” nutritional intake. All of the basic vitamins, minerals and amino acids contribute to our long-term health and longevity.

There is no single stand-alone nutrient that is more beneficial to your health than any other. Consider this resveratrol recommended dosage a single part of your complete daily nutritional intake.
