Few Web Design is Never Enough

Submitted By: Kamal Aggarwal

Your web site exists for a purpose. It exists to market your product or service, make a favorable impression, and induce people to come back regularly. Unfortunately, a lot of web sites (and advertising in general) falls for what we call the "beauty myth". We've all seen ads on television that have been stunning, innovative, brilliant pieces of cinematography. An example is the Honda "Cog" ad, which can be found on YouTube.

Now, if you're a nationally recognized brand (like Honda), simply getting brand reinforcement can be enough of a goal from an ad on television. On the other hand, if you're reading this, you're probably not that big of a company.

At which point, you need to focus on the function of your ad (your web site) over its form and beauty and innovation. Now, we're not exactly the zealots, and pushing for ugly, text only web sites that assume everyone's stuck in 1995, but still simple and attractive and understated is far better than flashy (or, for that matter, Flash-driven).

Most visitors to your web site came there because of a link from a search engine, or from a link from some place referring to your web site, via a blog, an article directory, or a conventional advertisement. These visitors can be at radically different phases of the purchase cycle. One may be looking to Buy Right Now. Another may be looking just for information on a product. A third may be in their active Hunter Gatherer Shop Comparison Mode. Your web site needs to provide venues and avenues for all three of these types of visitors. Most web sites really only try to do the first. I'd say this is a shame, but it means you can do better and win out in comparison.

Understand that people are going to be referred to your web site either from links on a social networking site (like FaceBook or Digg), or by a search engine term (and thus, by paid keywords). More than 90% of the traffic will be from the latter, though social networking sites are gaining rapidly as the second most effective form of traffic generation.

The benefit of hiring someone else to do this is simple: You're getting the benefit of the mistakes they made earlier on. Now, finding horror stories about Yahoo! And Google Ads That Turned Out Badly is fairly easy. Finding people who've analyzed those stories, and found the patterns and common elements is not. Finding people who've succeeded is also doable, but even better is finding someone who succeeded, and knows why and knows what not to do. This can be the difference between a revenue machine and an ad budget that looks like a sucking chest wound.

The other thing to keep in mind is that your time is valuable. It is absolutely worth your time to hire someone to do this for you. Pay Per Click advertising, and landing page building, has a lot of subtleties as much as or more so than an eye-grabbing web site does. It's worth it to find someone who's trained and certified on the ins and outs of the Search ad products that both Google and Yahoo! give. Google calls these folks Google Certified Professionals, and Yahoo calls them Search Advertising Ambassadors, but they both have the same job: They recommend ad words, look over landing pages, and help you find ways to tune up your ad presence to get the job done, while building a relationship with visitors to your web site.

Remember, the internet is littered with stories of beautiful, creative, or original web sites that had to close down because they could not run a successful advertising campaign. If your web site has been designed with a focus on these things and you are struggling to make your site profitable, it is time to hire a professional. Look for those experts who have been awarded Google's and Yahoo's professional seals of approval.

SEO Secrets to Efficient Web Design

Webmasters who believe that there is no need to optimize web design are on a state of SEO confusion. This belief will lead to the failure of the overall search engine optimization process. Webmasters who believe that there is no need to optimize web design are on a state of SEO confusion. This belief will lead to the failure of the overall search engine optimization process. It is important to optimize your site’s design along with other factors like your site’s content, links, page titles and Meta tags.

An optimized web design is one that is search engine friendly. Its structure must be recognizable for the search engine spiders and crawlers. You can also visit us at www.huge-niche-keywords.comOptimizing web design is done for the purpose of making your website more navigable and spiderable for the search engine spiders and crawlers.

Web Design Elements to Optimize

Here are four of the most important elements of web design that you must take into consideration as you endeavor to achieve a more search engine friendly web design:

HTML Element

The HTML codes that you use on your web design must be in compliance to the HTML standards widely accepted on the internet. Non-compliant HTML codes make it difficult for the search engine spiders and crawlers to spider the entire website and index it. This implies that it would be impossible for a website using non-compliant HTML codes to rank well on the search engines and its result pages.

CSS Stylesheet Element

What is the use of a CSS Stylesheet in your web design? CSS Stylesheet allows you to standardize the overall appearance of your website. You can either use internal or external CSS; however, it is advisable to use the external CSS Stylesheet rather than the internal CSS stylesheet. This is due to the fact that external CSS Stylesheet allows your HTML codes to be concise. For more results login on to www.greatseosecrets.com

Navigation Menu Element

External JavaScript must be utilized in creating the multiple level navigation menu of your web design. This allows you to separate the HTML codes from JavaScript. Remember that the search engine spiders and crawlers find it easier to read plain HTML files. An effective web design optimization recommends this separation rather than the usual navigation menu in Javascript.

Graphic Element

Although some resources tell you to quit using graphics, you can still use it in your website. But you have to minimize the file size of the images you will upload. And remember that the search engines prefer text rather than graphics so you should avoid using a lot of graphics on your website especially on the top portion of the page.

These elements need to be optimized if you want to come up with a search engine friendly web design. And more than this, an optimized web design adds to your website’s chance of getting higher rank on the search engines and its result pages.

After The Sale? 2 Words, 1 Action = More Money For You: Follow-Up

Submitted By: Sandy MacGillivray

Do you follow up with customers, affiliates, or employees?

Many businesses believe that once a sale is made the follow up process should end. Unfortunately they are losing a significant opportunity to build additional rapport, satisfaction, trust, credibility, lower returns, and increase knowledge of items purchased.

Follow up is for more than just prospects.

** Customer Follow Up:

Post purchase follow up is overlooked by many businesses. Utilizing this process after a sale can benefit overall consumer satisfaction significantly.

- Training to teach a customer how to use a product.
- Answer commonly asked questions before they are asked.
- Teach about lesser known features.
- Reduce returns.
- Provide support contact information. An auto-responder can integrate with any existing shopping cart system utilizing a feature known as "email parsers". These permit the ability to automatically build a list of customers within an account.

** Affiliate/Reseller Follow Up:

In most affiliate or reseller programs over 90% of affiliates never do anything. By properly following up with new affiliates you can help increase the percentage of affiliates that actively promote and see results.

- Provide promotional material.
- Teach effective promotion techniques.
- Product education.
- Reminders to get the affiliate to take action.

** Employee Follow Up:

Training new staff members on various company policies and procedures is a perfect example of effective follow up. Dumping a big manual on their desk the first day is likely to never be read. However, if you "drip" that same information to them over a period of time they are more likely to read and retain that information.

** What's Next?

Learn how autoreponders enable blog and RSS publishers to take advantage of their data to increase repeat visitors and ultimately overall revenue. If you're serious about getting your message in front
of thousands of eager prospects, then you've got to
seriously check out an autoresponder system.

Split testing allows you to test an idea or change to see if it helps improve results.

For example, if you were testing your web form to improve the number of people who sign up for your newsletter you might try two different colors for your headline. One in black and one in red. You then alternate showing each form to different visitors as they come to your site. The one that generates the most new subscribers has the resulting best conversion rate.

** Web Form Split Testing:

Creating and testing different web forms is easy with an Autoresponder. Web form generators allow you to easily create different versions of web forms and then automatically rotate them on your website to see which one generates the best conversion rate. All of this is easily accomplished by copying a single line of HTML to your website.

Tips for testing web forms:

- Type of web form. Embedded in the page, pop over, pop under, exit popup, regular pop up.
- Location of the form. Top of the page, bottom, side bar.
- Headline text.
- Headline length.
- Headline color.
- Headline pictures.
- Field order. Ask for the name, then email or email then name.
- Number of fields. Does asking for phone number, address, or otherincome affect opt-in conversion?
- Time delay for pop up appearance. ie 5 sec, 10 sec etc.
- Link to privacy policy.

** Broadcast Newsletter Split Testing:

In the same way you can split test web forms, split testing anewsletter can have a measurable impact upon overall conversion. In this case you might be trying to achieve higher open rates ormore click thrus. A good
autoresponder provides the ability to test up to 4 different versions of a broadcast and easily measure the open rate and click thrus of each version.

Tips for testing broadcast newsletters:

- Subject line variations.
- Subject line personalization vs. no personalization.
- Subject line date inclusion.
- HTML vs Text
- HTML with images vs. HTML without images.
- Different HTML layouts and colors.
- Pricing variations.
- Call to action variation.
- Time of day sent.- Day of the week sent.

** What's Next?

Learn how follow up can be extremely important for prospects before they buy but also for customers after they buy, partners, employee training, and many other uses.

Custom Website Design Tips For Newbies

Submitted By: Caryy Ganz

Is designing your website proving to be too much of a chore? Would you rather focus your time and energies on the actual internet marketing of your product instead? Perhaps you are thinking of getting custom website design.

Custom website design is any work on a website layout that is aimed at a specific purpose, or according to the requirements of its owner. Whenever you want to come up with a design to meet certain needs, it's customization that you want. Generally an internet marketing site has to be customized so it can generate more traffic and more money. The website therefore has to be pleasing and useful.

There are different ways to customize your website. Which method you should use depends on how much improvement you want done on your site. It also depends on how much effort you're willing to put into the designing yourself, or how little. Some will cost you more than others. For a beginning internet marketer, it would be more sensible to look for quality yet affordable web services.

Ways to Customize Your Web Site

Option 1: Free web templates. This is for you if you have a fair knowledge of web page coding, and at the same time don't want to pay for custom website design. You pick a free website template you like, save the code and associated files to your computer, and edit the code yourself. A free template has its own color scheme, header styles, graphics and layout. It's a quick solution, but the problem there is since the templates are free, there could be hundreds of other sites using the same template as yours.

Option 2: Commercial web templates. Now if you want better design quality, you can buy a professional web template for as little as $60, or as much as $2,000 if you want exclusive rights to the template. You'll still have to edit it yourself. Usually the flash templates are the expensive ones, but they are also very attractive.

Option 3: Customizable web sites. Similar to the above, you buy a template, but you can get the designer to customize the pages as you like.

Option 4: Order a unique website design. This is custom website design to the max. You order a unique site and they will build it from scratch. It goes without saying this is the most costly option.

Custom website design can get expensive real quick if you aren't careful. It's easy to get carried away by flashy commercial templates that cost even more than your domain name and web space. Although they look good, they are hardly necessary for the budding internet marketer. With just the right tools and software for the job, you can create a professional-level site you can be proud of. The good news is there are online resources where you can get such affordable web authoring tools. In order to save time and simplify the process, look for one-stop shops that have a broad range of tutorials, software and services.

Know What a Web Directory Is

Submitted By: Ruchand

What is a web directory?

A web directory is defined as a repository of links that redirect to other web sites. The links in any web directory are categorized and sorted based on their niches.

Web directories are often compared with RSS directories (Really Simple Syndication) because of their similarities in operation. Web directories provide direct links to websites whereas RSS directories provide web feeds known as RSS feeds.

Categorization of links within a web directory

All web directories contain large lists of websites that are differentiated from each other based on their nature and operations. Directories are first divided into categories and individual websites are listed in them accordingly. A few of the large web repositories even have sub categories within them, which normalizes the search at the consumer end. Since the importance is given to the entire content of the websites rather than settling with a few keywords, the websites are not ranked within the web directories. Hence, web directories act as repositories of website information.

Many web directories are inclined to be open source or customizable. This allows the end users to update the information of their websites by themselves while the editors do a final check of the information. One such open source web directory is aboutus.org, which is a subsidiary of Wikipedia.

Modes of categorization

Websites are categorized using hundreds of modes. The most common of them all are location, language and specialization. These, along with other modes like age and gender, are explicit categorization criteria. With the growing importance to search engine rankings and traffic rankings, the focus has shifted towards keywords too. Few web directories have started categorizing the websites based on keywords and have started using tags to fetch website results based on keywords.

Most of the web directories, other than those that are open sourced operates on a paid basis. The fee charged may be a one-time fee for account creation or on an exchange basis where the directories demand posting of back-links within the website content, blogs or articles. These back links redirect back to the original web directory that in turn earns them more traffic and, hence, a growing page rank.

Paid Directories

Considering the huge amount of traffic that web directories garner, it has become a trend for third party websites to pay to the web directories for their inclusion in the listings. These paid inclusions are also known as bid for position web directories. Such bid for position inclusions rake in a lot of profit for the directories which are sometimes equivalent to the profits brought in by advertisements.

Well known web directories

VLIB or World Wide Web Virtual Library is the best known and the oldest web directory. VLIB has been overtaken by more attractive and highly managed directories like the Yahoo web directory and the Google web directory. AboutUs.org, wiki’s web directory, is the best known user customized web directory. There are a few specialized web directories that list entries specific to some domains such as business, sports etc. Some well known specialized web directories are Business.com and Biographicon.
